Doesn't work, I tested with 4 known good working laptop and 4 known good desktop hard drives

Does not work with normal desktop hard drives because they require more power.

Works great for laptop hard drives but not for desktop hard drives.

I haven't tried them on full sized desktop hard drives (because of their power requirements) but they work perfectly on laptop sized HDD and SSD drives

This adapter, being USB 3.1, is capable of working with a desktop mechanical hard drive

I ordered the Star Tech 2.5/3.5" SATA/IDE adapter to get data off a desktop 3.5" hard drive and it worked perfectly.

Unless you are imaging the larger desktop hard drives that need the extra power this cable works perfectly with laptop drives and SSD's which are all that I use these days

but my desktop did..maybe driver issues.
