Later when setting it up you see that a solo cache SSD maximizes the read speed, to get the best performance for read and write tasks you need to have 2 SSDs for caching.

Sure you can tweak FreeNAS enough to yield better performance dollar for dollar, but the convenience of the Synology makes it more worth the investment

How to get the worst performance, Set up an ISCSI drive on your windows computer and connect to a windows share on the same nas, transfer from the windows share to the ISCSI target, between 3 and 4 MBps (18 to 23 Mbps).
