Synology 2 Bay NAS DiskStation DS218+ (Diskless)

    • From what I'd gathered online, Synology had a fairly solid reputation in this area
    • So, I took one (1) star off because it is my opinion that Synology should have provided better support, in some way, for their obviously flawed, and expensive, DS415+ NAS; Synology failed in that regard
    • What makes a Synology NAS so great is the software
    • I love my Synology DS918+ NAS
    • Not only did they auto-discover seamlessly, but the Synology's quota system worked flawlessly for limiting the size (Time Machine is notorious for simply eating up all available space---a constant irritation)
    • Synology for me had a reputation as a consumer-focused device, but I bought this for business-grade backup and it does not disappoint.
    • Again, Shame on you synology
    • But the Synology just works
    • Well, Synology's tools defied my expectations
    • Not as well built and serviceable as its larger siblings, but still a good value with the powerful Synology software.
    • I bought into Synology cheap with the 216.
    • This synology is the best NAS i've ever used
    • Synology offers a proxy for remote connections and it works well
    • My second synology been very happy with this company overall
    • , ie support, guides, community+Expandable Unit and RAM+A lot of Apps+Many Cloud options+Free Custom Domain (Ends in synology.me)+Solid construction+2 Step Verification-Expensive-Lock and Key feel cheap-Synology RAM is expensive compared to other RAM brands-No Drive app for Apple TV, this won’t bother most, but I prefer to navigate using the folders over a Media app solution.
    • This synology works great and is real easy to use.
    • sectors.)The Synology built-in software is very flexible and allows for endless tweaking, but basic setup is relatively simple
    • Great Synology software as usual, really excellent solution for photo and file backup
    • I was really surprised how easy and fast Synology made the whole process.
    • Shame on you Synology, SHAME!Just to be clear, for those considering a synology NAS, my issue is not with the functionality of the NAS, it is with the lack of transparency in their product description and advertising
    • So, I took one (1) star off because it is my opinion that Synology should have provided better support, in some way, for their obviously flawed, and expensive, DS415+ NAS; Synology failed in that regard
    • Synology is always the best when it comes to user friendliness with their DSM
    • All in all, if you like synology nas products - you’ll probably like this unit for its flexible upgrade options, and good performance compared to older units.
    • Synology trumps the Drobo.
    • Sadly all the comments about atrocious Synology Support appear to be true ; all you can do is raise a Service Ticket, and Synology may or may not get back to you - in my case NOT.+++
    • Drives were simple to install, used EXT4 as FS and used Synology's proprietary (?) RAID for redundancy
    • My router supports 2 Ethernet port binding but according to what it says while setting this up; even if the router doesn't support Ethernet port binding Synology NAS would by itself do load balancing/failover if both ports are connected to the network
    • Working with Lars I was able to determine my expectations about speed were not entirely Synology's issue
