Been playing in bands for the last 30 years and used other recording devices, but the Tascam is the best, bought an extra SD card for a few bucks, and it stores thousands of recordings, are band is up to 60 songs on Demos, plenty of room
I have a way fancier TASCAM recorder rack-mounted with a MOTU 828, and I can run the 828 into GarageBand, but I find myself doing most of my miscellaneous recording with this little do-dadI installed mics in my harp [years

Otherwise, I would highly recommend this to journalism students and students that need a good device to augment note taking.
That said, I did not inspect all other similar devices out there and compare prices vs. features vs. quality vs. etc... so if you see something cheaper with the same specs that you want, those devices may be better for you
It's a great, inexpensive, device to use for rehearsals or other live music events... if allowed!

I had heard horror stories about the competitor, Zoom H1 (about audio drifting off-sync after a while, the built quality of the Zoom, etc), and I took my chance on this wonderful product
Once I received the right product, this is a fantastic recorder
I used to own a better quality product from Zoom, but had it stolen twice.
Great product, I love it, it arrived on time and works perfectly.
Excellent recorder for use with the good, sensitive, well balanced own mics.
Features are mainly aimed at musicians but it's also a good general use recorder for dialogue and DSLR audio in spaces where omnidirectional mics are appropriate
using both their onboard mics and a trio of external microphones - the dirt cheap Neewer 3.5mm Hands Free Computer Clip on Mini Lapel Microphone (3X Lapel Microphone), the popular Pro Lavalier Lapel Microphone JK MIC-J 044 for Sennheiser Wireless Transmitter - Omnidirectional Condenser Mic and the oft-ignored (in favor of it's bigger brothers) Rode VideoMicro Compact On-Camera Microphone
Now, I am no one to judge on the internal MIC of this system (the top two channeled MICs) because I haven't used it yet, but I have a couple projects with required voice-overs and will update this review to let you guys know how it sounded and I am sure it would sound
The A-B mics sound great for the cost and the UI is easy to navigate

If the unit is up high on a tripod, and you can't see the levels and counter counting time, then you might miss the recording
Confusing to operate, difficult to get a decent recording direct from mixer
Good recording quality and easy to use, but the built in speaker is poor.
love this recorder, so easy to operate and get a fine recording
The loud clicking of any button hit ends up on recordings, buttons should have been designed as soft touch, not to make noise....any level adjustments on the fly will yield loud clicking noises in recordings3
Also recording from a radio that is not grounded at home might have led to some strange noises.
DR-05 and on my PC, with or without my headphones, the white noise was louder than the recording itself for some reason
The quality of recording itself is pretty good (extremely low level of volume though) but one huge problem that made me return this product was the white noise
A bit of white noise is exceptable but when I listend to the recording on both Dr-05 and on my pc with my headphones, The white noise was way louder than the recording itself for some reason
