The Learning Company - Oregon Trail 5th Edition

    • Strangely enough, I was able to get a 1993 version by MECC to work just fine.
    • If the game simply felt dated, that would've been a problem, but this version is actually a regression, not to mention broken
    • There is less of a show, also, when you reach oregon city (it actually seems like this version is a bit dumbed down, or something). However, it probably would entertain younger kids because this version is a little simpler, and offers more personalization for the intensity of game you are looking for
    • Version 4 consistently crashes on an incredibly powerful gaming computer system, which I use to run MMORPGs.
    • This version isn't as good as the previous versions.
    • Though I would prefer the original version with the Apple Computer, this game holds up its name.
    • I read several reviews (unfortunately after my purchase) that talked about the program (version 4 mostly) crashing.
    • It is not a good version, wasted money.
    • If you can find a fixed version of this game, or even online upgrades to improve the version you bought at the store or through Amazon, it's worth the play, but if you're stuck with what comes in the box...and believe me, there's not much in there
    • The original Oregon Trail was lots more fun - this version has whole scenes with animation and u can't bypass - is boring
    • beside the classic every other version pretty suck
    • If you have never played Oregon Trail, or have played only one of the first two versions, I would reccomend five over the other available versions (all are available used through Amazon.com)
    • It is not a good version, wasted money.
    • Version 2 is pretty good if you want a basic game (start to finish in an hour or so).
    • Having played the 1985 version (available for Mac II, but we played it on Tandys back in the late nineties) and the version from 1992, this game is a sight for sore eyes in so many ways
    • However, this version is not compatible with any mac newer than 5 years old due to a font issue
    • IMO, version 3 far exceeds anything before or since.
    • I was very disappointed that this version of Oregon Trail, 5th Edition, does NOT work on a new Mac (10.5 or above) because it lacks the font needed
    • The old version was a lot better.
    • My kids also love this version of the game
    • Version 3 is great, with the addition of fishing, gathering, and player driven trading, along with the much better graphics
    • Also on the old version when they died you could create a headstone no longer an option on this version.
    • I loved it then and the newer, interactive version is very nice too.
    • Just like my favorite version, #2, but with an added story.
    • This is a more modern version of the game I remember playing.
    • not like the old version
    • well i always liked oregon trail when i was younger and prob still like it today but it wont install properly on my computer so
