I first tried a cheaper extender and it barely works but it loses connection often.

As for the downsides: the firmware lacks a few valuable features such as captive portal functionality and hostname configuration, the wired ports are only 10/100Base-T, and troubleshooting usually boils down to performing a factory reset and trying again
