Since the adapters still work fine except for the USB port, I simply desoldered the cheap-o port from each of the new adapters and replaced it with an FCI port (FCI PN 61729-1011BLF -- 54 cents each)

I know this cable is much more expensive that the cheap-o ones you find elsewhere, but if you're a Mac user, don't waste your time with any other USB-serial cable.
