so of course I got it super fast, even with free shipping.
The interface I had worked well with a PC using one of the COM
Even in the PC world an interface is necessary to talk to the radio via the serial port and there are no USB interface converters available that I could identify
I am using it with WinXP Service Pack 2, and it communicates great with a complex serial interface to an unusual piece of electronics I have, so its very compatible with "real" serial ports, unlike some other adapters I have tried that seem to only work with modems or PDA docks.
Our new Laptop doesn't have a serial port and the Modem doesn't have a USB connector so this adapter provides the proper interface and works flawlessly and the performance is what is required for this type of setup.
Works well as an interface in my amateur radio packet station.
Tried a few serial cables... this one always had the best review, and it worked perfectly with my MAC and Z-Term for networking serial port management (e.g. Cisco).
I read good reviews about this Keyspan device on some Astronomy chat rooms, and decided to buy it.
I suspect that those negative reviews were the result of not reading the instructions beforehand
I read a good review of the Keyspan USA-19HS USB serial adapter
Based on other positive reviews on Amazon, I decided to try this Keyspan adapter.
The Keyspan adapter is the only brand I've used that has worked falwlessly with the specific devices that I'm using; no comm port errors or other conflicts as with some other brands.
The Keyspan USA-19HS worked flawlessly for us right out of the box, using the driver from the included CD
I plugged in my serial devices to the Keyspan and they worked just as they did when I plugged them in directly to a serial port
This Keyspan USA-19HS worked immediately and flawlessly.
The KEYSPAN USA-19HS worked flawlessly, is well documented, and comes with a powerful utility (which I did not need).Details:
I plugged in the adapter, started the MX-800 software and configured it to match the serial port (in my case COM6) and it worked perfectly!
The software for the CarChip would sometimes freeze with my old computer with the serial interface
I know this cable is much more expensive that the cheap-o ones you find elsewhere, but if you're a Mac user, don't waste your time with any other USB-serial cable.
Not a technical review, but I installed the software and it worked as it was supposed to
No other cable that I tried worked or included the correct software to do this.

well working unit to allow the connection of serial devices to computers that only have USB ports
The PL2303 based devices work well with the open source drivers out
I have found this works great working with a computer, or other devices that have their negative side of their power supply tied to the AC neutral.
This works wonders for accessing older serial interface based devices.
Overall bad experience, product seems WAY to overpriced for the cheap piece of garbage you get for it, I would pay 5 dollars for this and be happy
Works great to interface with a Swim meet timing console (Colorado CTS-6) that only supports a serial interface from a very picky piece of software called Meet Manager.
The Keyspan USA-19HS is the cheapest piece of control system communication hardware that I own, and it's probably the most-used
The device I wanted to connect is a barcode scanner - which is an expensive piece of equipment.
I am using it with WinXP Service Pack 2, and it communicates great with a complex serial interface to an unusual piece of electronics I have, so its very compatible with "real" serial ports, unlike some other adapters I have tried that seem to only work with modems or PDA docks.

Since the adapters still work fine except for the USB port, I simply desoldered the cheap-o port from each of the new adapters and replaced it with an FCI port (FCI PN 61729-1011BLF -- 54 cents each)
Unfortunately, the cheaper USB socket doesn't retain the cable connector as well as the older ones did
Among the changes was a decision to use a cheaper USB socket
few cents that Tripp-Lite saved by using a cheaper socket isn't worth it
First off, the complaint about the faulty USB socket has been remedied
