Configuration is not for the weak of heart, but the speed is much better than my previous wireless router.
fantastic router, very fast speeds, quick to setup, numerous features to enable and configure, well thought out product
I love the speed of this router, but the setup could be a lot easier
Other than that, speeds are terrific and reliability is great.
Comcast recently began offering Gigabit internet in my area (Docsis 3.1), my current wndr4500v2 was topping out at about 630mbps, I purchased an R7000, and experienced even slower speeds
Paired it with a UAP-PRO and all the people living at my house can do what they want when they want online without fear of slowing down the network.
I bought a Ubiquiti UniFi AP Enterprise WiFi System Long Range and Edgemax - 3 Ethernet Ports - 1 Gigabit Router with the plan to have a rock solid home network running a central AP that could serve the entire house.
This is the router for those that want to dive into more advanced networking concepts and setup super-reliable enterprise-quality networks
Pair this with a Ubiquiti access point or two and you have a very solid network
As other reviewers point out this router isn't really geared towards consumers who don't have a decent networking background
I recently upgraded to 1.3.0 and noted the addition of a first time setup wizard though I can't speak to how it works as it doesn't let you launch the wizard if you're already up and running.
This is the router for those that want to dive into more advanced networking concepts and setup super-reliable enterprise-quality networks
Overall though I am very happy, I am tired of expensive low quality consumer network gear
Downside is it lasted 6 months before the flash corrupted & started getting I/O errors.
The GUI is nice but most of the great features are only accessible in the CLI.
Still too many features missing when compared with the Cisco rv320 or the Cisco asa5500
Very powerful features however great for the home user.
But when I read a lot of other posts regarding this equipment I read complaints about missing features and attributes that couldn't be seen that I now do see in the version I'm running
) uses].My EdgeRouter shipped with an older firmware that did not support the Wizards feature, so updating the firmware was important first step.
Downside is it lasted 6 months before the flash corrupted & started getting I/O errors.
Where an R6300, R6300v2, and R8000 all failed, this device not only instantly solved all my issues, but it was a breeze to set up!Just make sure you update your firmware to the latest version first, as this makes things significantly easier.
All in all, this is an amazing little device, and practically a steal at around $100 USD
It also has less ports that are not PoE.It appears that most of the owners of EdgeRouter that are so excited with this product are folks coming from unreliable home-grade devices
I'm very glad I chose the Ubiquiti device based on this devices amazing speed, community based support, active updates, and the
I do not know if I can say enough positive things about this little router.
Positive things about the AP, were that the software interface is top notch, really like the ability to customize the names of connected devices (vs. just a MAC number), and the AP range overlay on a Google Map is pretty neat
Downside is it lasted 6 months before the flash corrupted & started getting I/O errors.
I was fed up with retail all-in-one routers, so after hearing a lot of good things about Ubiquiti and especially this router, I decided to give this a try
The web interface is ok, but if you need to do things more complex than simple routing and port forwarding, you must learn the CLI.
I've worked with networks and computers since DOS 3.2, but running the setup wizard for the basic configuration with a static internet IP still fails miserably.
Once I moved and went to a static internet IP, it became pure evil
If you're on a connection with a dynamic Ip, that won't work.
I was able to set it up with firewall, port forwarding and static IP assignments with the GUI menus
Optionally you can reserve a static IP by entering a devices MAC Address and the desired IP address in
We started having a lot of extraordinarily frustrating problems with Google Drive / Gmail / Google services after installing this.
Information in the forums suggests the problem was limited to earlier batches of the product and mitigating steps in production were taken to correct the issue permanently.
Since that did not clear the problem I started another investigation into equipment that might better do the job of purely routing traffic.
The problem I had is that, beyond setting it up as a simple NAT router, it was too difficult to set up some more advanced (yet not esoteric) features
The worst thing is that I've wasted ~15 hours over the past 8 months troubleshooting stupid problems caused by this that I didn't immediately realize were related to this cheap, buggy hardware.

OSPF, static routes, BGP, and all my other good friends are available for configuration via the CLI and possibly the GUI
Keep the CLI option for those wanting to do more complex routing, but make the graphic UI easier to use and you have got a winner that will sell millions.
I had looked into routers that supported custom firmwares, but I wanted something that had all of the features I was looking for stock in a small home network router (Dual WAN, custom static routes, VPN, and traffic shaping/profiling); the EdgeRouter met my needs and even exceeded them
