I thought this would be a neat little box to replace an aging pfsense firewall with
This little white box has restored my faith in consumer-level routers
Good luck in whatever assignment you find for this mighty little box.
Don't let their size fool you - they are powerful little boxes for the SMB market, and at a fraction of the cost of Watchguard or Sonicwall appliances.

I've barely begun exploring all the great features included in this router, but every time I do I am impressed.
I was able to limit traffic only from the NAS, letting other traffic proceed at full speed, and do it on a schedule - only during my lunch hour and after work on weekdays, and all day on weekends (at night it goes at full speed). It also has some great charting features, and the web UI updates in real time without postback/refresh.
Great OS for configuration with tons of powerful features (you may not use them, but if you were choosing between this and something more expensive, this may serve your needs).2

Some details regarding the major complaint:Basically, after unpacking and plugging in the connection to the internet and to my computer (i.e. plug & play), I only achieved about 250-300 Mbps through the router
Basic setup is as easy as plug in and go

Seemingly cannot handle 1 Gbps internet connections without needing either A) significant configuration changes that don't apply to most people (and thus, online help becomes more difficult to find) or B
Would probably serve most configurations very well without a problem

I think we have had two units die after extensive abusive conditions after two years -- which is pretty darned impressive compared to a common home D-Link or Netgear unit which can freeze weekly with the load of 15-20 clients
This is an amazing device- easily comparable to routers costing thousands from the likes of Cisco.
To really appreciate this device a strong to almost expert level of networking knowledge is needed.
It does not provide POE, for that you buy the RB750UP.If you're looking for an extremely versatile device to do all sorts of network functions, this is a great device

The learning curve is steep, the documentation on their website is arcane, but there are user-provided examples and support that can be found that make it a bit easier.
The terminology used in the UI and the documentation seems very odd at first until you realize that it is using firmware-centric concepts like "queues" to limit bandwidth.

The only caution is that the online documentation is difficult to navigate as it covers many revisions of routerOS.
