While the RV042G seems to work well as a router, it is NOT PCI compliant and will cause your network to fail the PCI-DSS Scan from Trustwave.
My service is as fast as it ever has been even though I now have my new CISCO router and two Ubiquiti antennas added in between.
The RV042G will work as a router/firewall, but if you want VPN access or remote admin, go elsewhere
It's performance is reasonably fast, and configuration is very easy
The router would just need to detect any change to the WAN IP address for NSD to engage (rather than wait for the WAN port to disconnect, or for there to be no assigned IP address). As for VPN functionality, I have experimented with it on numerous occasions (on RV042, RV042 V3, and now RV042G), I have been able to establish a reliable Gateway-to-Gateway tunnel, but unable to set up a Client-to-Gateway VPN the way I would like
Failover works for HTTP traffic, but not so much for VOIP traffic (reconnection to sip trunks will fail)
Easy setup, works nice, flash upgrade very easy, no problems !!!
Using this router for a home network and it is working great.
UI is great, although I am told that the ultra-competent network guys prefer direct code and no gui, this works for me as I am a good tech but not a real coder.
An last but not less important up to 20 people connect remotely through RDP and works perfect
But this thing works and serves a big function, so I can't complain
Very nice unit,... but a couple things I do not like at all
When it comes to the feature set, the only thing that really distinguishes this router from other consumer-grade routers is its genuine VPN support

At the time the screenshot was taken, 216 days of solid uptime without a single interruption!-Fast WAN to LAN and LAN to WAN throughput for residential connections
My service is as fast as it ever has been even though I now have my new CISCO router and two Ubiquiti antennas added in between.
For the price you aren't going to find a better dual wan router with as many features as this one
What could be improved from my experience:-Dual WAN failover (with the current firmware) does not work properly in many cases, and needs to be revised by Cisco

Worked great assigning a static ip to both in separate locations and using the site to site setup

The last out yesterday removed the imposed limit (100 000 kbit / s) in the boxes to indicate link speed, but without result on the flow
Fantastic product for small businesses who need load balance on two internet connection and VPN.Easy to setup.
Cisco should be ashamed of themselves for putting such a substandard product in the market
I would recommend this product for small network, Dual WAN and stable gateway-to-gateway VPN.
We have used this product in many of our clients' offices with very little problems, and any issues we've had were resolved by making sure the firmware was updated to the latest version
This product is very well for load balancing, but for VPN is no so good, because only permit five host for pptp.
Upon examining the logs, I found out that the router was refusing LAN->WAN connection, based on "Policy Violations", inspite of default policy settings that has no restrictions for LAN-> WAN traffic
Then I gradually noted that it was failing to perform the automatic connection to the secondary Internet line when the primary failed
Great network device easy o set up
I have never suffer for loosing connection since put on my new router
The most current firmware (4.2.1.02), as of 1/2013, does not work properly with Comcast native dual-stack IPv6.
Great network device easy o set up
However, if you call the Cisco small biz tech support and describe the problem to them, they will escalate your case and you will be given new, beta firmware that does fix these two problems (you'll have to agree to a beta test contract first). Conclusions
Many of the devices on my network are Apple - including an Apple AirPort Extreme router that does not support rate limiting or SNMP
