It was a good buy - the one that would fit with the protective case would probably be too big for his arms, from the reviews I read.

The combination of the protective case and plastic protector on the armband make using the touchscreen a little difficult(the case keeps the plastic from making contact with the screen), but there isn't any issue in having both a screen protector and the plastic cover.

The only bad parts about this unit are that the velcro edge has put a number of pulls in my running shirt, and the Droid will not fit into the armband without removing my everyday protective case from the phone.

A hard case was easier to use with the holder than a silicone case -- the silicone makes it harder to take the phone in & out of the holder.

I am able to keep my hard Speck case on my Iphone, and it slides right in!

Buttons on the side of the phone are a little more difficult to control through the armband's soft-sided case, but this isn't really an issue for me as I don't typically need to access those buttons while walking/jogging.

I bought this for my iPod Touch, because I have a very nice two-piece protective case on it, which is near impossible to remove.

I use an otterbox defender case (which is probably the most bulky case you can find for an iphone), so I do have to slip off the rubber protector (leaving on the plastic protector) to fit the phone in this case, but with that, it works fine.
