Highly recommend over a regular weather radio as you can gather more info from local police and fire services.

They are more efficient radios for fractions of the cost

You will need some nice antennas for this nice radio to increase your scanning powers

Overall, it's a good radio and works for the intended purpose of letting me listen and letting me know what's happening around my neighborhood

In 50 years of the Scanning Hobby, the BCD436HP is one of the better radios I've had

The 436 is Easy to set up and use, the software is very well polished and the radio itself locks on to plenty of action all up and down the bands from near and far with it's stock antenna

Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this radio, especially to newcomers who have always wanted to try scanning but were intimidated by the often complex and confusing set up procedures of past units
