Reviews around product (4.61 of 5)

  • I do not trust this product
  • Great product, but you must fully read the manual to have a better understanding of all the features and how to use them correctly.
  • but it works amazing outside of a bit tricky at first its a amazing product well built
  • Now, $300 doesn't guarantee that you'll love the product
  • This is probably an excellent product if you live in an area that receives clear reception.

Reviews around list (4.58 of 5)

  • My favorite feature is sentinel software's ability to make customized favorites lists and pinpointing specific agencies that I want to hear
  • A large part of the difficulty is vocabulary, and you are initially confronted with terms such as favorites lists, systems, departments, and talk groups.
  • Unbelievably difficult to try to use, the owners manual is impossible to understand and when I tried to call customer service at the number listed in the manual it was disconnected
  • You can punch in your zip or create custom favorites lists
  • I've used the software to program a profile and a favorites list

Reviews around sound (4.47 of 5)

  • The sound is crystal clear, easy to use, and light enough to put in your purse.
  • I'm very happy with that process, but after less than 30 days the sound on the unit stopped working
  • Can't get use to clear audio sound yet since always had radioshack
  • ps it helps to know what type of radio and what area of mhz their in.also great sound and LOVE the Zip code and distance feature, especially if you are out of your normal
  • The audio sounds good and the battery life is getting me about ten hours .

Reviews around feature (4.43 of 5)

  • This is a very handy and useful feature, to get you started
  • Its features are somewhat limited, and construction of your favorites list will require further exploration and experimentation.
  • Second negative is the "Analyze" function does not work as it is described in the manual.
  • ps it helps to know what type of radio and what area of mhz their in.also great sound and LOVE the Zip code and distance feature, especially if you are out of your normal
  • Worst feature: inability to charge radio while actually using it.

Reviews around money (4.42 of 5)

  • Best scanner money can buy, once you get over the "long" learning curve
  • Not worth the money
  • Awesome scanner very nice well worth the money theres a few things they could fix
  • Don't waste your money on this for the "misleading convenience" of the Home

Reviews around build (4.40 of 5)

  • Seems to be a solid build, but very complicated to program.
  • I know this is a great product b/c several of my friends have them, with that being said, this unit has been very difficult to program and is not the user friendly item it claims be
  • Radio is well built and operates as described in the literature.
  • Very easy to program if using built in zip code frequencies
  • but it works amazing outside of a bit tricky at first its a amazing product well built

Reviews around receiver (4.33 of 5)

  • This is without a doubt, the most powerful handheld scanning receiver available from any manufacturer
  • The only problem I have with it is that the receiver is not very sensitive
  • Very powerful hand held receiver although you need to carefully read the instructions when programming the unit.
  • If you are law enforcement persons you will have much more powerful receivers available to you capable of Cell phone conversation monitoring etc., things no civilian should even be interested in
  • This is a digital receiver using the latest technology available

Reviews around reception (4.17 of 5)

  • I upgraded the antenna to a Watson 801 for even better reception
  • I found the Uniden BCD436HP digital Scanner to have excellent signal reception and scanning ability
  • Reception is poor for rural areas but I believe the antenna is poor quality
  • I guess the only other thing I don't like is the reception is somewhat tricky if your settings are off or you just aren't in a good place where signals can easily be
  • The reception with the stock SMS rubber antenna is better than good and picks up very little interference !

Reviews around radio (4.13 of 5)

  • Second negative is the "Analyze" function does not work as it is described in the manual.
  • S A" person code, then when i sink my radio i type it in for real.love this
  • This is a great radio for listening on trips because of the built-in frequency database
  • The multi-function knob is a little annoying, but overall its a good radio.
  • but once you overcome that stumbling block it's a great radio!

Reviews around software (3.75 of 5)

  • The free Sentinel software from Uniden makes it very easy to modify the programming.
  • It's slow to to pick up a frequency compared to my Uniden 125, and the software to program it, as well as the operation is cumbersome
  • There is a VERY STEEP learning curve for custom programming this scanner using Sentinel (free) software to get this unit custom programmed for only what I want to hear.
  • Download Uniden's incredibly lousy "Sentinel" software by googling a link to it on some ham forum or other obscure location.6
  • BUT Uniden makes free software for this called Sentinal which has a real good database with it

Reviews around thing (3.54 of 5)

  • I guess the only other thing I don't like is the reception is somewhat tricky if your settings are off or you just aren't in a good place where signals can easily be
  • This thing is awesome especially if you just want to get up and running immediately.
  • this is a nice thing about the scanner I can just turn on the railroad channel and that's all I get
  • I love the scanner though and it is the coolest thing I have probably ever purchased
  • otherwise , you're not going to enjoy programming this thing by hand.

Reviews around unit (3.22 of 5)

  • Overall I definitely recommend this unit even with its power sourcing down sides
  • But out of the box, the unit works and seems to work well.
  • I was hoping that I received a defective unit but when the second one arrived, it had the same problem
  • All in all, I would certainly recommend this unit for any serious scanner enthusiast that has the money to spare !
  • The unit I have won't work with anything larger than a 4GB memory chip.

Reviews around battery (2.50 of 5)

  • Instead, I received incorrect alkaline disposable batteries.
  • Also, the rechargeable batteries were junk and had to be replaced.
  • Now to find good rechargeable batteries for back up purpose (that do not heat up and get really hot).
  • works awesome,i just put the batteries in and zip code and it did the rest
  • Today the rechargeable battery that came with it had a meltdown

Reviews around time (2.00 of 5)

  • Either the plug or the port has become defective as every time I move it, it loses power.
  • All Uniden needs to do is redesign the radio to take 4 battery's and that would solve the problem as well as add more time to the radio
  • All Uniden needs to do is redesign the radio to take 4 battery's and that would solve the problem as well as add more time to the radio
  • After awhile the batteries were not charging right ( ruined 2 sets of enloopes)Time to turn unit on is very long to loadUnit is large almost too large but does have a good easy to read screen
  • I have a hard time trying to figure out how to search for only police dispatch in my location only and not several other different agencies like fire, EMS, and/or border patrol, etc

Reviews around design (1.80 of 5)

  • I hope with a future release of this scanner Uniden will reconsider the battery charging as I think many users, based on the forums, find this to be a poor design given the cost of the scanner.
  • I also like the design of this scanner
  • It is very poorly designed with multiple functions for every button and knob and seriously becomes a pain in the @$$ to use
  • the more i use it the more it feels like it was designed to be barely sub par so they can sell more accessory upgrades for it

Reviews around card (1.69 of 5)

  • The major problem with this is that it will COMPLETELY corrupt the SD card and EVERY TIME, making the device UNUSABLE.Buyer beware on this one!
  • I just got done modifying my fav's list via Sentinel, I saved it, as best as I can tell, I eject the scanner from the drive, then the scanner tells me I have to format the SD card and lose all my work
  • I never even got to the first stage of entering the date- Seems like the flimsy Micro-CD card insert device would not read the card, possibly a bad connection
  • This is because Windows is so stupid, it will corrupt the SD card if you format it with anything other than SDFormatter.
  • But don't ever pull the USB cable out before you tell windows to eject this device or you'll corrupt the SD micro card inside the scanner.

Reviews around curve (1.00 of 5)

  • Very steep learning curve, I highly recommend search the web for the "easier to read" version of the owners manual.
  • I would not recommend this scanner for someone just getting into the hobby, there is a learning curve involved.
  • This has a steeper learning curve than a lot of scanners if you want to get the most out of it, but out of the box you can start listening just by entering a zip code
  • There is a VERY STEEP learning curve for custom programming this scanner using Sentinel (free) software to get this unit custom programmed for only what I want to hear.
  • The learning curve on this one is very steep, it's NOT your fathers scanner

Reviews around sd (1.00 of 5)

  • It is located behind the batteries, the scanner keep stating SD read error - I figured out the problem
  • The first bug is related to this SD card corruption issue, the second possible bug relates to the backup battery for time, Uniden has a current update fix for this.
  • If I would have known "Missing bonus material" meant missing SD card, belt clip, software, documentation as well as being scuffed I wouldn't have bought the repackaged one.
  • SD Card File Error, Use Sentinel 'Clear User data operation to initialize SD
