The only downsides other than the cost are the large afterthought extended battery Uniden added after release (my unit came with the new battery) is cumbersome and bulkey, as well as the recessed and narrow antenna collar (used to help waterproof with the stock antenna) which makes attaching some aftermarket (EG Diamond) antennas impossible without an extender or modifying the antenna
