    • This hard drive works just great with my Tivo Series3
    • I did have another external drive with another TiVo one in between the series 2 and the present one and it died as did the external drive at the time I suspected electrical since it was not on clean power but that has since been rectified as I use an APC home theater system with a ton of outlets in addition to the whole home surge system.
    • So many of us have DVRs that have limited hard drive space
    • Just need to set it all up, then plug the sata cable in the hard drive for it be read

    • Go ahead and install the hard drive.
    • the genies will "see" the full 4 TB worth of space (note that the genie 2 comes with 2 TB worth of hard drive space just "by itself" which might be enough for your family's use anyways, you know best how much recording space your family needs :) ) ... at which point I'll transfer this anker/seagate hard drive setup to the genie.. in the meantime the anker/seagate hard drive combo worked flawlessly with my HR-24, didn't even need to "format" itself like the WD expander, just started working immediately and is still working great one week later
    • so I had to pay to send the bad drive back to
    • Little slow on transfers, but Dish's fault (USB), not the hard drive

    • The included cable continues to perform great, as well as the hard drive itself
    • This hard drive was easy to install and worked perfectly with my PVR
    • Go back to dvr/configure and upgrade/external hard drive
    • When you turn the cable box on again or the cablebox powers up from sleep mode, this external hard drive is not recognized, and sometimes all I get is a black screen that forces me to reboot my cable box
    • Prior to adding this hard drive, I had approximately 39 hours of programming recorded, and the DVR interface indicated 95% full
    • I can access recordings on both hard drives.

    • I find performance wise you're going to take a bit of a hit, slower than if you were relying on just the hard drive within the DVR (which let's face it doesn't have a big enough hard drive or you wouldn't be looking at this product in the first place)... but the trade off to me is worth it in terms of increased storage
    • The drive makes just a bit more noise than the Tivo, but nothing you'll notice while watching a program
    • A call to WD resulted in a suggestion to erase the drive and reconnect it so the DVR will reformat it again
    • After the reboot and restart I confirmed all my old recording were still on the hard drive where I left them as were all the programs that I had scheduled to record

    • I had trouble with other hard drives but this one was recognized and formatted right away....
    • Haven't noticed any issues with playback, but from what I've read online and been told by TW, you cannot transfer recorded content from one DVR to another by moving the drive around, nor can you disconnect the drive without risking the loss of all recorded programming (even that on the DVR itself)
    • Another issue with 2 previous brands was the hard drive would freeze (like on a daily basis) and we'd have to reboot the drive.
    • Sadly, the drive lacks any documentation whatsoever, support is minimal, and the drive simply doesn't want to work with my Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 HDC from Time Warner Cable

    • I tried using an external ESATA box I had laying around with a hard drive, and it worked for a while, but even after trying two drives, they would eventually failed after a couple months causing the UI to stutter and pause and make even going to the guide almost impossible- and playback was a slideshow
