I have searched Comcast message boards regarding the DCX3400 and it seems like their attitude is give the WD external drive a chance and if it doesn't work properly, you can get a compatible DVR instead.

Simply to setup with my TWC DVR (SA-8300HD), just plug it in after the DVR was already on & it prompts to format the drive.

I need the extra storage and I don't know if I should return the drive or buy two switchable outlets to make AC disconnection and rebooting the drive and DVR easier

The external HD for my FioS DVR works like a charm and installed very easily

I came to the conclusion that this was the only DVR expander that would work with my TIVO Roamio

It seems that the DVR now looks only at the external drive in determining the amount of space in use, ignoring the usage on the DVR itself

Only problem is the time left on the DVR hard drive is separate from the expander

Received this drive for Christmas and like many others I was unable to use the drive out of the box with my TiVo HD DVR.

You can go to channel 1999 before/after adding the hard drive and scroll down to DVR AVFS (I think) and it will show you available DVR space.

So far, I am completely satisfied and happy with this wonderful product and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone with a compatible dvr.

Impossible to save programs from the internal DVR hard drive

Our original DVR died which turned out to be fortunate because it didn't have an eSATA port

the included space with fios dvr is a joke, this expansion has significantly increased my enjoyment of fios

When attached it messes up the DVR in various ways, and needs to be rebooted.

Tivo Support finally diagnosed it as a defect in my Series 3 DVR and recommended I get a replacement, also at my expense, including paying $200 to retain my “lifetime” programming for the 3d time (the Series 3 no longer being available, so it would have been another Premiere
