This device was advertised as "backup" solution however after trying, and failing, 4 backups with 2 different devices I decided to return this device.

I'm sending it back and looking for a more reliable NAS device.

I initially thought the device might be defective, because I have another device connected to the same router via ethernet that works fine, and I even tried the same port.

Data loads much faster from carbonite than your own personal "cloud" plus carbonite is likely more secure (RAID).It's a good device but consider your options.

Overall this is a frustrating device which I'll likely replace with a much better one at some point.

Basically, it's a great device as long as things goes well

It may have happened in the past and so I tried rebooting the device, still no luck

The device was incredibly easy to configure, had a sleek look, and both random and sequential IO performance tests were more than acceptable for a pair of low performance SATA spindles with a single Gigabit Ethernet connection.

According to the sales literature, this device works with a Time Machine and is discoverable on the network for app access for the mobile devices.

Also, and maybe more frustrating, the device (which was new and re-opened!) did not come with the quick setup guide (that is supposed to have a 9 digit code) or the sticker on the back/bottom of the device (which is supposed to have a 9 digit code)

This device has glowing reviews but when you receive it you will find that it's fraught with problem and failures.
