• Reviews around thing (2.27 of 5)

WD 3TB My Cloud Personal Network Attached Storage - NAS - WDBCTL0030HWT-NESN

    • This thing still needs work
    • That was the last impressive thing that happened
    • While I'm waiting, I'm reviewing all the online chatter about the 'flashing red light' problems and people going over-board to dismantle the damn thing, download this, hook up the drive to that, 15-20 steps to just get the damn thing to work when I purchased it NEW
    • Good thing is that I can create users for my family and they can all save their data and share it easily
    • This thing was a pain to set up, but once I got it working, it's great
    • Love this thing.
    • I guess the hard reset takes a looooooong time - this thing is not too good at indicating when it is working - just solid blue, all the time.
    • THIS THING IS AMAZING
    • Being able to have large amounts of data available anywhere in my home and anywhere else for that matter is a beautiful thing
    • Helpful things I discovered were the following:1
    • I cant say enough bad things product its complete garbage.
    • after I gave up and used the easy setup things when fine - then I could go in make shares, users, etc
    • This thing is a complete waste of time, money and the power it takes to run it.
    • After looking at a bunch of reviews, I decided this was the best inexpensive thing available and decided to keep it even with my issues with bugginess and not having complete control
    • the thing is slow but good purchase experience
    • The only bad thing about the design is that there is no button to turn it on or off
    • Seems to me that right after the worde "Device" on that screen they could display the name you've given the drive so that moving things from one to another or working to back up more than one at a time would be a bit easier
    • Best thing ever
    • I hate this thing so much
    • Will try to update for longevity as that's the most important thing to us!
    • The only bad thing is that file copy over WiFi is damn slow.
    • Overall this thing works great and has more features than I was expecting
    • I hate this thing
    • So, if you give it a chance, this thing just really screams
    • Another great feature is the onboard USB port for connecting external hard drives And the best thing is that you can attach an external hard drive and setup backup of the device to it or expand storage
    • I bought this because of the built-in/pre-configured network interface though you can accomplish the same thing (for less, I think) buying a bare drive and a powered enclosure which is what I plan to do next time.
    • This thing was a nightmare
    • I think the key take-away is that this thing is great if you have the expertise or willingness to tinker a little.
    • So I just directly connect to the NAS which usually works fine, but the thing is slow
    • This thing touts great abilities and fails, fails, fails to deliver
    • My next task will be to buy a straight forward external hard drive then bash this thing like the scene from office space.
    • I also don't like things that don't seem to work correctly.
    • Love this thing.
    • Love this thing.
    • I'll do more tinkering and some tests to see if I can improve things.
    • I hate this thing
    • Oh sure, you'll get a first backup to work, but within 2 weeks, Time Machine will complain that there's something wrong with the backup and it needs to erase the entire thing and start fresh
    • This thing is so buggy and difficult to use, I am returning it
    • Maybe they're doing better things
    • This thing is awesome on our network
    • I've had this stupid thing for a couple years and have spent as much time dealing with issues as I have actually using it
    • I glad I have it, but I like things that require little thinking when I hook them up to a computer.
    • This thing screams on my gigabit wired network
    • I love having this to "dump" things in.
    • The thing is so slow it takes going to bed and leaving it until tomorrow to see if maybe it has found itself
    • My next task will be to buy a straight forward external hard drive then bash this thing like the scene from office space.
    • I also shifted the device to the 5 ghz channel in hopes of quarantining it from the other devices that were connected to the 2.4 ghz channel (before anyone jumps to tell me this wouldn't make a difference, I know, I was just trying different things to isolate the issue).Customer support acknowledged the slow upload speed was irregular and offered to replace the device
    • This thing is crap.
    • One of the cool things that the WD iPhone app does is organize your photos automatically, but it uses that time stamp and the photos were not placed in the correct date
    • Straight out of the box, this thing doesn't work
    • This things is utter crap, slow, glitchy, and WILL NOT WORK with apple TimeMachine like it is advertised to.
    • The first unit that arrived had something rattling inside, the power plug was out of alignment with the hole, well, that can happen, a thing can get damaged in transit, so ordered a replacement
    • I don't trust the thing.****************Well, great.
    • All those things are nice if you have a use for
    • This thing is AWESOME!!
    • That sad thing is that I was RELYING upon this device to protect me from losing data due to drive crashes and failures
    • Cons: the only thing so far that has happened to me once or twice is that the unit Sometimes slows down and needs to be restarted, in the last 5 months so i guess is not too bad.
    • This thing, plain and simple, does not work
    • This thing eas a peice of crap lasted about 1 month crashed
    • My dropbox just works, but this thing is extremely confusing.
    • I cant say enough bad things product its complete garbage.
    • USB.The only thing I'd say to use this device is good
    • This thing is the worst
    • One thing that was a bit odd was the lack of a power switch but it does provide an option to schedule times to power these units off and then on again during the week
    • Documentaries and a lot of e-books or text on another, Movies on the third, and I've had family members watching different things at the same time with no problems or glitches as long as there aren't more than two people watching things that draw from the same drive at the same time
    • However, I was impressed with how easy it is to set up and I wouldn't have returned (and would give it a 5 star rating) if the one thing I was looking for wasn't missing
    • But set-up is complex and trying to figure out how to do simple things, like managing users, creating new folders, etc
    • A "Recall" if you will, this product is the worst thing I have had experienced as a consumer in about 30 years buying and working on various high technologies.
    • I HATE THIS THING!
    • This thing is horrible.
    • Never really able to easily get music uploaded to it, and then the whole thing crashed and burned when we changed our router with Uverse.
    • That's right, by trying to back up your files this thing actually costs you more money by deleting and losing them
    • There are hack to get around it and without doing that the thing is just useless
    • I am going to low level format the damn thing and sell to one of
    • This thing just won't work right.
    • I like this thing a lot.
    • What could you imagine is the worst thing that could
    • Oh, and the status LED broke after a year or so; instead of white, blue, or red, I have sickly yellow or dead, so I have no way of knowing if something is wrong with the stupid thing
    • This thing is a royal pain in the...
    • I guess I'm being somewhat paranoid, since I'm the only one using it, but I just don't like things I can't control.
    • Warning!!This thing Deleted Many folders on my hard drive of one of the computers it was linked to
    • Not the best of solutions but just one more thing that might help
    • God this thing sucks
    • It is one of the best things I've ever purchased
    • There isn't one easy, trouble-free thing about this unit I can talk about
    • This is the worst thing I've ever bought.
    • Love this thing
    • The stupid thing won't turn blue
    • good thing since the only directions included come on a card with a picture showing it being plugged in and then going into the Admin console
    • The only thing it doesn't do that I would be interested in is you cannot install Plex on it, its not available from WD.But as a network file storage device, it does everything it should do well!
    • This thing has been a miracle in our house
    • No matter how much I really want to love this thing it lets me down.
    • LOVE THIS THING, helps me keep my computer uncluttered and its easy to setup.
    • This thing is only good for storing photos and barely even music
    • This thing is SLOW.
    • I didn't trust this thing and deleted files from my computer
    • My only complaint would be that, while yes things are accessible via the cloud, I had visions of streaming videos I had stored through the MyCloud App, but the connection doesn't always hold making for stuttering, buffer-lagging
    • This is the best thing ever.
    • UPDATE july 2018: I hate this thing
    • If you see it sit there and be the slowest thing ever, try the firmware update.
    • Anyway, this thing is abysmally slow
    • Right out the box this thing is not soft or fluffy at all.
    • https://www.amazon.com/gp/review/R1U4ZXZQMH41U6I think this thing is great, as long as it's what you really want.
    • They have 3 or 4 different programs just to work the thing
    • I spent about 80 hours working and playing with this stupid thing until I finally figured out it was malfunctioning for no apparent reason.
    • This is the most useless thing I've ever seen
    • This thing never misses a beat
    • https://community.wd.com/t/problems-with-amazon-s3-jobs/98277/11 ) ( lots of them!
    • It worked as promised, as I first thought.
    • Eventually after I was able to google a customer support phone number I got through and the tech support specialist who blatantly and rudely argued with me, he was very horrible to deal with as he would not honor the S/N on the device and told me I had to plug it in and find the information of which I was unable to do
