WD 3TB My Cloud Personal Network Attached Storage - NAS - WDBCTL0030HWT-NESN

    • It takes no time to setup, no issue such as figuring out or configuring hardware specs.
    • It also blow hot air all the time
    • I've already spent quite enough time on this thing
    • When it failed the first time I requested a password reset
    • I bought 4TB so that it would last a long time and has simply broken.
    • It did work a time or two.
    • This time they told me the drive had died and to contact their data recovery team to retrieve any critical lost data.
    • HUNDREDS FOR DATA RECOVERYAfter suffering for 2 years through chronically corrupted Time Machine backups (which can only be solved by either tedious (and often unsuccessful) command-line interventions, OR starting a fresh backup, which of course means the loss of your current archive, defeating the whole purpose) THE DRIVE THEN
    • The one time that it sort of work, the connection was so slow it was worthless
    • For starters, the UI to change any settings with this is very difficult to use and often times throws errors.
    • Having a hard time reviewing this
    • Each time, tech support says they will call me back and never do
    • Almost every week the time machine backup becomes corrupted and you have to start over with a new backup (about 24 hours of disk cranking every time). Can't believe Western Digital haven't pulled this off the market
    • The first time, it's horrifying, because you'll believe you've lost your data.
    • The problem is any time you try to copy any large amounts of data to or from the device it suddenly drops connection
    • I can't access files remotely when I need them, ugh this device is really a complete waste of money and my valuable time
    • I wasted so much time and it DOES not work at all
    • I was able to get the desktop app down due to my experience with issues like these, but to anyone who has a hard time with computers for basic use, this is perhaps not the best device to own
    • My drives failed and replaced, four times
    • This time the firmware update was successful.
    • I've grown tired of the directly connected drive being unavailable all the time and decided to buy another WD cloud hoping that network connectivity and updates to another device cannot be unreliable in a same way
    • The last time I tried to transfer pictures, it was just ridiculously slow
    • I have to power cycle or use reset button to get rid of the copying progress window, and copying to the 4TB drive did not occur correctly it reports a false time remaining, and progress stops
    • Login fails multiple times
    • Update: I tried the Time Machine backup a couple of times more before I shelved it, and it finally worked
    • Will try one more time as it worked well for two weeks
    • Unless you are an IT tech professional, don't waste your time or money.
    • But considering that the WD My Cloud device is a 3 TB storage device, this should not be a problem any time soon.
    • If it doesn't at least remotely work straight out of the box, I don't have the time to mess around with it.
    • I also had this being backed up to an external hard drive connected via USB but at some point this also got messed up and any time I try to set it to backup automatically again it just throws errors.
    • At first, I had a hard time understanding why so many people give this product positive reviews
    • I see connection issues some times even though the device is connected my network
    • It has software to make thumbnails that is so time consuming the whole thing grinds to a halt
    • but this time the unit STILL won't stop grinding
    • The hardware is great, its about time WD put some work in to the software.
    • I am returning it for the concerning it will crush any time.
    • This was time consuming and not like the demonstration videos in which 1 file is moved around.
    • First time I had to reboot the device, second time I had to hard-reset (recessed button in the back), third time reboot again, fourth time errors/data corruption resulting in a need to format the drive.
    • I plugged it into our WiFi router, and it showed up automatically in everybody's Time Machine settings, all ready to use
    • First time I needed Tech Support to resolve a setup issue.
    • I tried many times to fill that form on the website but due to some error, it never worked
    • Every time I dropped files into it, it would stop working
    • If you call WD support they attempt to make it happen, but, it's just not going to work and you shouldn't waste your time on Western Digital
    • Can't get Time Machine (for mac) backups to work at all, due to errors that my system can't sync properly about 90% of the time
    • Sometimes the firmware updates help, other times they make everything much worse.
    • It haa a hard time, if at all, connecting to a
    • I had a hard time deciding between building my own NAS and starting out with a purchased stock NAS like the WD My Cloud
    • I've had to take it out of the power outlet a few times because not even the reset button works
    • Synching your computer and this devise gives you hard time
    • My time and nerves are simply more precious
    • The last time it failed I put a WD 3 TB Purple in it and eventually the Seagate hardware failed (the first 3 times the drives failed and were not recoverable) but the WD drive was still fine.
    • They call it Gen2 but didn't write that on the box and wasted my time by making me purchase something I will definitely have to return
    • It only took 5 time on the phone 3 times being hung up on and arguing with too many people to count
    • Having to reorder a product which should have arrived correct the first time.
    • Our Final Thoughts-- DONT WASTE YOUR TIME with this Poorly Manufactured Waste of Time & Money
    • It loses connection all the time especially when moving large amounts of data(I am using to store full and incremental image backups of my and wife's computers
    • Had an impossible time getting this to work with my Windows 10 laptop thanks to the lack of support from WD other than a web interface.
    • but with the short window for phone support and the sudden stoppage of the functionality that was previously working, I was not going to waste any more time on this device
    • But it's having a hard time working with my mac time machine back up
    • Though this experience was time consuming and unpleasant, the actual device works beautifully, and is exactly the solution I was seeking to make files on my desktop readily accessible to me and sharable to others.
    • users can upload, download and modify files whereever. great money and time saver for our business.
    • This is the first time I've had a shared drive, and I don't like anything I don't have complete control over.
    • Also, if the device had a USB that I could do the initial Time Machine backup on and then do it over WiFi every other time would have made this realistic...
    • The problem is that the cloud drive indexes the non-cloud USB drive every time the drive is rebooted or power is lose
    • The early result on the music was a slow reaction time and an occasional music stutter on larger files
    • If time is money, I lost big time on this product.
    • Perfect charge and very short time
    • Can't get my Mac to recognize it and get Time Machine to work.
    • Each time I call support they have me reset the device.
    • You'll have a much better time if you do it that way.
    • Most frustrating were the many times that instructions or guidance actually contradicted itself or worse, seemingly left out steps of navigation
    • It's insanely frustrating to be a fairly experienced PC user and to have to waste time looking for instructions on Google.
    • I have phoned their tech support a few times, but the support personnel are snarky, and that's on their good days
    • Do not waste your time with this device
    • Delivered on time good product
    • Trying to setup time to meet with support team but none of the available times work with my schedule.
    • I ultimately discovered on a WD on-line forum that this device can only backup a single mac using Time Machine which completely defeated my reasons for purchasing this device.
    • $$ and time wasted.
    • Nevertheless, My Cloud is still being advertised as Time Machine compatible
    • https://community.wd.com/t/problems-with-amazon-s3-jobs/98277/11 ) ( lots of them!
    • It worked as promised, as I first thought.
