If I can, I will make day-to-day TimeMachine backups with the 8TB WD MyBook drive and monthly backups to the reliable 3TB WD Passport drives.

Two other Western Digital 4TB drives work fine, as well as three other 3TB drives.

I almost always set up my own data duplication on any drives I get, which I think is essential for anyone who wants true backup, and if 8TB is not enough for a non-power user, then you don't need my review to convince you to get the bigger drives, do you?That said, this device is well built by a quality manufacturer, and I don't see it going down anytime soon.

that has it's own power source and it should not exceed 2 TB.

I'm sure in like a year the 8TB hard drives will be using some new hardware that doesn't have this problem, so maybe wait for that if noise is a concern or go down to the 4TB
