Device seems stable enough that you can get around these issues just by copying your config, and restoring if ever you need to reload the NAS, so these faults alone weren't enough reason for me to return the device.

The device works great for streaming native movie files to the Xbox One and my VLC app

However, after receiving one (which I will be returning, by the way) I have concluded that this device is absolutely no better than simply setting up a desktop PC with the same amount of hard drives in and networking them/sharing them across your network

The device runs hot, the internal fan does a marginal job of cooling the device and drives.

Cooling fan failed after just 4 months , not good for what is supposed to be a high quality data critical device.

Has nice features like wifi/web access for pc and mobile devices fairly easy to setup and access.

but as with other WD Cloud NAS and USB devices use propriority OS recording technique which makes it almost impossible to get your data if the device fails for any reason also almost impossible to replace the hard drive in case of failure or upgrade.

Finding a way to share data between all devices and having a central area to backup to was one of the things that I wanted to accomplish so when this device became available, I decided to try it.
