I realize that this device is marketed for use in a car, but as long as you use a decent ground plane with the antenna (a metal cookie sheet works really well; smaller and more convenient but slightly less effective substitutes include candy or tobacco tins), it works very well inside a building

With my first application, I attached the antenna to a 3"X3" thin metal plate then sat it on the dash, which is working great, until I set up a more fixed location.

Our hatchery now has 5 of these cradles and I would recommend this product working in isolated areas where their providers will not cover.
