Compressors can be a beast to control and you do have to go on faith that they work with out squashing or clouding your sound

Furthermore, when I play with a lot of attack I get a weird sound from this pedal, kind of a double thump, which sounds terrible.

Okay, so... it's small, easy to dial in a good sound, very inexpensive, made here in the US, and has a wonderful transparency to it

The casing is solid & the sound is great

but I find it easier to dial in a good sound, especially using the blend knob, I like to retain some dynamics to my sound

but the SP is just so simple to use, sounds great, and fits my small pedal board more easily with room to spare

I watch some videos of this compressor and the tone sounded great, so I took a chance and am glad I did.

Whenever I use the 9V power input it make a terrible sounding

I haven't touched the DIP switches, but right out of the box this thing is just gorgeous sounding.
