To my ear, in comparison to more expensive Yamaha soprano recorders, and larger alto and tenor models, the low F on this one is just a tiny bit higher than it should be, another reason for the four stars, but hey, for the price!Before buying this model I asked a question here on Amazon about the colored translucent models, and was told by a consort player that these translucent ones are just as good as the ivory ones, and as I found, and say above, better than some

"Enjoy Your Recorder" (1953) and are really enjoying re-learning to play the "sweet pipes"!

I consider this to be a great starting recorder, especially given the price and the quality

Cons, (which I only mention because I also bought a Yamaha YRS-302B Soprano Recorder, which cost about $15 more), this recorder, like all soprano recorders, tends to sound a bit like a whistle, while the the 30-series mentioned above, sounds slightly less like a whistle, more like an instrument

This recorder is attractive and also has a pretty good tone considering it's plastic

Great sound for the price, and you don't need to worry about hurting or losing it as much as if it were wooden when you walk around and play outdoors like I like to (putting a hair-elastic loop around my belt to keep my recorder secured while in my pants pocket)
