The built in speakers are better than I expected and most of the time just use them instead of plugging into anything.

The built in speakers are not loud enough to cover the "tapping" of the sticks on the pads, so I don't use them

I haven't tried to use as a midi controller yet because the built in kits are quite nice

It's extremely affordable, is well built (hey it's Yamaha), and sounds great.
