when it comes to playing in tune, standard fingerings produce pitches that are very much in tune, plus it can tolerate volume changes well, something I did not expect of a plastic recorder (my experience with my Aulos sopranino is the same as well).Sound wise, there isn't a big difference in quality between the Yamaha 300 and the Aulos 700, just different tone (the Aulos might be a hair louder, not sure, with a reedy tone, the Yamaha sounds more flute like).

My older Yamaha had a more penetrating and interesting tone (and the wooden instrument of course in a different league entirely), but I really like the new instrument for its very mild upper register

I have never played an alto recorder before so I have nothing to compare it to, but I really like this one.

My only gripe about plastic recorders in general (including this one) is that moisture droplets quickly accumulate on the surface of the windway and start distorting the sound

The sound is lovely, and the higher registers could not be easier to hit

it's not going to ruin the sound or anything

I love my instruments, and this Alto recorder is truly a professional instrument

To my ears this instrument sounds almost as well as some of the pro wooden ones I've heard on recorder music CDs

The tenor is a more difficult instrument in general

Unfortunately, the instrument had minor scratch and slippery with wax and the bag was dirty.

The upper instruments - SN,S and A - have a reedy quality and the lower instruments - T and B - have a haunting hollow tone quality.

One can get into bad habits with a recorder that allows a hard blow, and recorders that allow hard blows tend to have worse tone

The tone is clear through all registers; low F and F# speak easily

I love everything about it-nice mellow tone, pefect intonation, easiness of learning the higher register and good looks

The amount of breath control needed is considereable, but this is actually a good thing

It is actually YRA-302BIII that shipped and it has a cool Yamaha tuning fork logo on the mouth piece which looks way better than the image shown with this product

For some reason the soprano and alto in the 300 series have identical tuning issues in terms of the location of fingerings, the sound is nice, but it requires too many fingers to correct the tuning problems of high Eb, for example, I'd rather use the same fingerings across all my recorders, rather than having to compensate for poor tuning

You might not truly appreciate the difference unless you try an impeccably tuned recorder like the Aulos

The second problem is the inevitable condensation, and it's worse on this alto than on the soprano.

The slightest error or condensation and you get an awful screech.

While playing a piece, some players suck troublesome condensation back in, though I'm dubious about potentially harmful effects to the lungs.

Guess I should have tried the cheaper model first.

Perhaps the cheaper models don't have this same issue, I've never tried them.
