I would definitely buy a RedHead windscreen for this unit to cut any wind noise, as the attached mics are super sensitive.

The unit has some surprising capabilities for mixing and editing, built in: combining multiple sources, layering tracks, punching in retakes, etc

Started with the H4, very nice, simple unit, then upgraded to the H4n when it came out.

After a few weeks of back-and-forth with Zoom's customer support team -- including a return-and-replace -- I was told that the unit is not compatible with USB 3.0 ports and that I would have to transfer files using a card reader

Overall, as with most Zoom products, this unit is a winner and cannot be touched by it's competition in it's price category except for perhaps the Olympus LS11 which is cheaper but the Zoom has a ton more features

I thought it was a defective unit until I did some more research.

If you are a professional musician with a van who is already hauling a lot of heavy equipment, and want a big hefty unit to use on stage, the Zoom could be just the ticket.

I have used other field recorders for ambient nature, and the h4n is definitely a great portable unit.

(At this point, because I was still having problems with the software installation, I didn't know whether it was a software problem; whether the card was defective; or whether the unit itself was defective.)
