Reviews around pennywhistle (5.00 of 5)

  • I am a beginner whistle player and I love my Clarke Pennywhistle, key of
  • the humble pennywhistle is a wonderful little instrument.
  • For what it is, this Clarke original is a fine pennywhistle from a notable and respected manufacturer; a simple, inexpensive little instrument with a long, rich history and a sound that defines the Celtic style of music from across the UK

Reviews around price (4.33 of 5)

  • This instrument rocks and comes with an inexpensive price tag
  • I have a C and a D whistle and they both make good sound for good price.
  • If you know how to tweak it, it’s a good price for a Clarke.
  • Very reasonably priced and works great, I'm just not that great at playing.
  • Pretty little flute and worth the cheap price

Reviews around tone (4.33 of 5)

  • Its a great little whistle, extremely portable and good tone
  • It has the same body type as this, but again, the tone of the original tin whistle is just softer and sweeter
  • so, right away I thought the sweet tone was a bad whistle, or a just a cheap whistle
  • A little difficult to play at first, but once under control, a wonderful tone.
  • As a contrast, the Feadog has a brighter (louder) tone to it, which works well for larger rooms

Reviews around instrument (4.28 of 5)

  • Good value for the price, would recommend for someone looking to play a cheap instrument without lessons, or experienced musicians trying something new.
  • It has a lovely sound, is easy to learn, and seems very durable - a quality, simple instrument!
  • It has a seam at the bottom and is not metal, and he says there are small gaps in it, making it a poor musical instrument.
  • I'm really surprised by how nice this instrument sounds.
  • They were after all called "pennywhistles" for a reason-- they were designed to be cheap, decent-quality instruments.

Reviews around tune (4.26 of 5)

  • this has a softer tone than traditional Clark whistles and works better for slower tunes but is easier to overblow.
  • And when you finally "get" a tune right, the reward speaks for itself
  • I'll guarantee you one thing, when you get one just right, you will be impressed by the incredibly beautiful, balanced instrument you have, with second octave A's B's brilliant, in tune and chirping like a bird, and on a really good one' even 3rd octave d's and e's may be in tune and beautiful as well.
  • The whistle comes with an instruction sheet that shows the fingering of the notes (very helpful for the rank beginner) on one side with a couple of easy tunes on the reverse side
  • HE PLAYS IT DAILY AND EVERY NIGHT OFFERS A SWEET TUNE FOR A CONTENTED & HAPPY TIME OF RELAXATION BEFORE WE SLEEP

Reviews around clarke (3.70 of 5)

  • So I would recommend the Clarke, as an inexpensive, soft and easy to play whistle for anyone
  • (Oak Classic Pennywhistles)The wooden block in the fipple of the Clarke gives it a much warmer, flute-like sound than the Oak; however, the Clarke also sounds a bit breathy, so I'd say the Oak loses less air and plays more efficiently
  • This has a much quieter and woodsier sound than the more popular Clarke whistles
  • The Clarke whistle really defies criticism, pro or con -- after all, it is the original mass-produced whistle.
  • I highly recommend the Clarke in D, especially if it is your first.

Reviews around tin (3.68 of 5)

  • did not get what I ordered, wrong tin whistle
  • If you want the best tin whistle, then this is the one you need!
  • The tin is very soft and I recommend very slowly and carefully(if you are a mechanical kind of person) prying up and flattening this area somewhat and bringing it down as I directed, by placing a smooth flat metal object on the edge, thin cloth in between if worried about scratching and lightly tap with a hammer, do a couple taps, play the whistle, work slowly and carefully.
  • I bought this after hearing one of my friends' whistles and for the price I paid, this is an outstanding quality tin whistle
  • I had purchased a cheaper tin whistle with a plastic mouth piece but this one with its wooden mouth piece is so much easier to get quality tones from.
