At least, this is how I used this key and it seems to work for me as my drums sound pretty good
Not to mention that it was not rare to have one tom with a nice, full sound, and the one next to it sounding a bit like a plastic trash can
My son was able to easily re-torque all of the heads on his kit, and get a better sound from the kit overall.
If the rods will turn easily then this thing works great
Love it, don't always have the time to fine tune and this thing is perfect!
One more thing, like another reviewer said, if you have rusty or dirty threads on the tension rods, all bets are off, because it will take more torque to get the same tension on the rods.

I used Remo BA coated heads on top and BE clear heads on bottom (planning to switch bottom heads to BA coated as well).For the price, I definitely think this is worth the money, assuming it continues to work for me long term, which I expect it will.

Basically it's an arbitrary benchmark you can use to get a consistent torque for each bolt on the head
Also, there are about 4 clicks in between each number so you can really fine tune the torque that you want.
At first i thought the product was damaged, but i soon realized that you need to adjust the torque dial all the way up to 8 in order for the key to show some resistance
In summary, I like this product and use it nearly every time I tune.
The torque key seems to be very well made......good price for a good product.
Some tuning tips or something would have been nice, but it's a solid product that has really simplified what was once a frustrating process for me
Love this product and prefer it over all other tuning products mostly for its simplicity, price, and ease of use.
This key is great for all intents and purposes and tunes each lug to the same tightness every time
Also, you might still need a regular drumkey for fine tuning - and for the hardware: this key is not supposed to mess around with tom holders and cymbal stands!

If you want to tune each tension rod to the same torque this key is very useful
Now, on a cheaper quality drum, the lug screws tend to be riddled with burrs and imperfections

You still have to methodically go around the drum and tune the lugs in "star order", but the end results are a proper sounding drum ... despite not knowing what i'm doing
I use to worry that my drum heads were slightly uneven, but with this torque key I know my drums are absolutely perfect all the way around
With new heads, remo rings and this key, your drums will sound great!
