Facebook Portal [Gen 1]. Smart, Hands-Free Video Calling with Alexa Built-in
Connecting through Portal feels like being in the same room, even when you’re far apart. Whether you’re moving around the kitchen or chasing the kids through the living room, Portal’s Smart Camera automatically adjusts to keep everyone in view. With ...
I like the way it follows you around without having to hold the phone
The way the camera follows the person is awesome and my mom (who has dimentia) loves it and can operate it
If you're looking for a simplified way to connect with family and friends, then Portal might be the solution
I have this in our kitchen now and when people call the camera follows me around in a smooth way so that I can talk to family while I cook.
(In positive news, my kids don't have to fight over who gets to hold it since it stands on its own). All in all, it has been a great way to stay connected with family living across the country
Great product, brings families closer together, like being in the same room.
Good product, much easier than holding your phone to video chat
A great product, we live 5k miles from our family, this gives us the feeling of being together, absolutely love it
I think the novel approach has been hampered by the fact that out of the box, this expensive product can do very little of what your typical tablet can do under the same circumstances
While the Portal isn't perfect, it does have some advantages when compared to other popular video chat options
Assessing the video and audio quality was difficult as I
My daughter loves the storytime options and, of course, the funny face filters
Pros:*When not in use, it can function as a digital photo frame, pulling pictures from your FB account (or a designated FB album).*You have the option to cover the portal camera if you're concerned about privacy and you can also choose to mute/disable the microphone through a button on the top of the device.*Picture/camera quality is good if you have a high-speed internet connection.*There are some fun ways to interact through the FB messenger chat: fun filters, the option to read storybooks, etc.*You can set it up to include more than one person's FB account
The sound is great and the picture quality excellent
Assessing the video and audio quality was difficult as I
Picture is great
We do a lot of video-ing with the far away family and usually its that same shaky, picture from below that makes you sick and not want to look at the other side.
This portal is great for connecting with family and the camera is amazing.
They added a button to disable the camera, which I don't use, and a little plastic cover you can slide over the camera, which I also don't use.
Great camera provides coverage of whole room so we can chat with constantly moving baby/toddler and keep everyone in the picture
Since they were having such difficulty getting their camera on their computer to work and always trying to position themselves in-front of the camera was difficult
There are also volume buttons and a physical camera/mic button that disables the camera and mic
