I didn't bother to install the DVD writer software provided as I have a favorite I always use.
Anyone know if this is Mac compatible, I have an older ( 2008) Mac , and many external devices are not usable, as Mac would rather you buy a whole new computer
I am using this device on my Windows 10 desktop computer and it works right out of the box, no need to install software

Needed a read/writer with own power supply for more speed, Solidly built, looks nice in its black gloss finish and gets the job done, not like the slow flimsy usb slim drives which to me always seem cheaply made

The top and front have a smooth glossy finish and the bottom and sides have a textured ribbed look.

The M-disc compatibility was the big selling point for me, as I have had DVD-R media go bad, making discs with irreplaceable material unplayable
Fortunately I had a few K Hypermedia CD-R disks that worked satisfactorily to make the system repair disk.

I purchased this hoping it would be a higher grade disc drive, and it did in fact read a critically important DVD-R that numerous other internal and external drives failed to read.

I inserted the install disk and in a few seconds Windows 10 gave me a notification that software was available and what I wanted to do
I use a disk drive almost exclusively to rip my CD collection to FLAC files using EAC error correcting software

I need a sturdy external writer, tho not one of those small portable USB ones

I have to accept that these large, generally dependable external writers are obsolete (the LG is the last of its kind) and buy one of the new ultraslim" units

Ive had horrible luck finding an external cd/dvd drive that actually works (most were LGs lol) this worls perfect, is quick, no complaints
Reads, writes, plays DVD's, burns DVD's...everything a good gaming system needs.

When I attempted to burn a DVD, however, I found that the Verbatim recordable DVD disks I had also purchased will not work in this DVD burner.
Great Product to replace burned out drive on my laptop and write DVDs
Just "heavy" enough, and is as fast as my much more expensive Blu-ray internal drive
Confusing right?A little over two hours ago I set up the drive
For the most part, the drive has been reliable, working well with whatever media I throw at it (figuratively speaking, of course). The one downside is that it stutters a bit when ripping from CD-R media
This is the only external drive I have which rips, burns and operates as well as any internal drive.
