Love the Nikon D300 DX-format DSLR Kit with 18-55 mm lense.

It's a great kit for that, because it comes with two lenses, a case, and (with the configuration I got) an SD card and wifi module

I am a beginner, and this kit was perfect for getting started.

For this reason I would recommend investing is a sigma(a third party company) 18-250mm lens and forgo purchasing the 18-55 and 55-200 since it will not require upgrading nearly as fast as the kit lens

I don't know if it needs absolutely optimal conditions to focus on auto, but I previously got awesome photos on auto with another brand and am so frustrated to see once in a lifetime photos (Christmas, a trip to NYC) all out of focus.

It takes a truly amazing camera (in this price range) to give relatively noise-free images at ISO 12,800, but this camera can deliver that
