To my ears, the sound quality sounded worse than the Lightning ear buds that Apple includes with the iPhone 7

It's either the "pass-through" mode where nothing plays (kinda useless to me, I'd rather take out the earbuds for a second), or the 3 adjustable levels of noise cancellation
