When I tested the pictures that this sigma took and compared it to the Nikon OLD 85mm 1.4d, Agreed that the pictures from this sigma (once you set the sharpness right :)), the Bokeh and the color contrast are just amazing....however comparing it to the OLD Nikon 85mm 1.4D, I did not see a huge difference in the pictures
It did not bother me because I was getting sharp images with amazing bokeh but can be a concern for some people
This lens to super fast, very sharp at f/1.4, and creates a beautiful bokeh background
I'm a long time 85L user, and was hesitant to lose the quarter stop of light and incredible bokeh
The tradeoff of it being a heavy monster it makes up for in sharp photos and creamy bokeh

The images from the new lens look great, the auto-focus snaps in quickly
The images are crystal clear, and the background is a creamy blur
, it's amazing, it's like the canon 85L just more refined and faster, images are so so so so sharp, the weight of it is very nice too and it feels very well made, just amazing over all, not complaining.
The 85mm is much larger but leaves you with the most amazing images you will ever shoot
you have a problem with this lens and you're not fine tuning the
Sigma makes it extremely easy for you to fine tune the focus on your lens
Then ran the AF Fine Tune on my camera which further "strengthened the marriage" between the lens and the Nikon D7200 body
mm filter is not a common size but you can still find some with B+WThis lens is heavy tooI don't recommend using this lens on a crop body or a smaller body without battery gripFocus is right on with some AF fine tune in cameraThe focus speed and accuracy is way better than the Sigma 35 1.4 AOptical quality is amazingI use this lens on D810 bodyYou can see every single pore on people facesNot a complaint, but expect some skin smoothing on a imperfect face

First, the sharpness wide open is outstanding, the only thing that changes going from center to the corners is vignetting, sharpness visually stays the same
When this lens hits the mark, the sharpness is simply amazing

I am a portrait photographer, and with young kids (who can't sit still) the 85L sat in my bag while I used the trusty 70-200 f2.8L. Having own and love the 35 ART, I was very exited to try the new 85 ART
12mm but for portraits at a desired focal of 85mm only the art can master that.

After around 5 hours of work, the quality/ sharpness/ color contrast is far better on this Sigma than the Nikon 85 mm.in my opinion, this lens is better because it delivers a better or comparable quality at a lower price point
The build quality is fantastic, and the giant focusing ring is a pleasure to use for photos and videos
The quality of the material and the lens are ASTONISHING
I'm using the 6d and the quality is unbelievable.
I highly recommend to calibrate the lenses for the best quality possible
