I prefer San Disk’s design of a flat rounded drive that easily slips into even the smallest pocket
INTERESTING OBSERVATIONIf you are considering this because of that trendy design, know that WD seems to have chosen the wrong material to build it with
Then we can get to the aesthetics of things, and again I prefer the smaller, thinner, rounded Samsung design rather than this larger, squared edges design.
(over 50MB/s slower)
I couldn't get the claimed 540MB/s performance, but it was still excellent (496MB/s
Also manual transfer of files were slow for what's considered an SSD
This portable ssd is everything I need for on the go and extra storage for my MacBook Pro. Great transfer speeds and comes with an adapter to switch between 3.0 and 3.1 usb
(over 50MB/s slower)
If you want fast file transfer, or gaming capability to piggyback on your laptop, there's not much better
In fact, using a regular USB 3.0 port on my Dell laptop, as well as on my MacBook Pro, I saw 350-400 MB/sec steadily while both writing and reading
In terms of speed, the Western Digital 512GB SSD isn't quite as fast as Western Digital will have you believe (at least in my testing), but that doesn't mean it's anything less than a speed demon
(over 50MB/s slower)
Going to smaller file sizes, the speeds slowed even more with the 100 MB dataset
Very fast read/write performance; see the greatest speed increase when you connect directly from USB-C to USB-
Speed is great and with a solid state drive I feel better about traveling with it
Highly recommend this drive for anyone who wants a speedy connection or a way to boost the performance of their Mac Mini.
Pro (supporting USB 3.1 for this drive) as well as, with the included adapter, to a USB 3.0 port.
Despite the awkward USB-C to USB 3.0 adapter size I still would highly recommend this product especially if you have a USB-C device you can plug it into

Excellent performance, build quality seems very good so far

The product has a circular dent of roughly around 2mm, I have attached the pictures
It's a shame really when manufacturers spend all the energy and resources into making a great My Passport SSD product, but neglect the rest which is also as essential as the product itself.

WD has many fine products and, in fact, I rely on several to practice law
But realize that data transfer speed absolutely will vary from task to task, and that the so-called specs only tell you what the device is capable of under the most ideal conditions but, as they say, your mileage will vary
This is a great looking portable storage device with a lot of speed
All in all, this is the ideal 512GB portable storage device until someone comes out with a portable drive that can utilize all of the speed of Thunderbolt 3.
At least they're not making you pay more for a newer, slower device.
The WD MyPassport SSD is a compact device with a USC-C connector and comes with a short 1.5 foot USB-C cable (nicely made) with a standard usb adapter included
