The built-in mic was only good for producing a reference at best

The built-in compressor is not too good, the limiter is so-so, though both are marginally adjustable (3 settings for each) I would agree they are "functional" but not exactly "smooth" or "transparent" - if you must use them, try to get by with the limiter first, then compressor as a last result (better still, if possible, adjust your recording setup so as not to need these)- Would be even more magical with basic channel effects (reverb, chorus, etc.) and a few overall effects (normalizing, mastering, etc.)- 1/4" inserts are pretty tight (IMO) which is good for ensuring a "solid connection" but it makes me a little anxious when inserting / remove cords (maybe they will loosen up just a bit with continued

The Zoom H6 has a solid build quality and the ability to swap mics out for different applications is a HUGE plus.

The buttons, knobs, toggle and switches feel well-built and have excellent feedback

I later bought the remote control and Highly recommend it as well

The controls and display are extremely intuitive, and make it easy for me to set up and use this recorder

I like the input controls that let me change the gain to negotiate that sweet spot between achieving maximum clarity, filtering out ambient noise and keeping the sound floor low.

It seems like a it will handle a little bit of punishment and certainly does have solid feeling controls

Great recorder for doing multiple tracks, X/Y mics that come with it are good, and the module mic options are good too.

The X/Y and ball mics the unit comes with are also excellent, providing a complete package that allows me to capture ambient audio as well as professional voice overs

I like taking it into noisy places and conducting interviews with dynamic mics.

It's versatile for XLR and AUX inputs, and the Mid-Side and XY Mics are solid, too

For its pricepoint of around $350, it isn't exactly an impulse buy, but for the value and features it delivers, I believe it is a great buy

As a freelance-filmmaker who does a lot of Run-and-Gun shoots, the power, price, and convenience of this recorder makes it an excellent buy

It is also worth pointing out that if you are trying to record live (vs. multi-take multitrack) performances, this IS a good buy because you can have up to 4 mics plus the onboard all at once

It is a good buy for sound production work using external mics

Once again, if you're looking for a portable recording device with high quality sound and lots of options and features, this is probably not a deal breaker for you

It is a very intuitive device to figure out whether you're a hobbyist like me, or an advanced audio pro

I used it once for a musical performance and it didn't pick up sound very well compared with my cheaper Sony device.

This feature, to me, is what makes this device such an incredible bargain

Extremely easy to use (even if it looks scary at first), incredible recording quality (with AT4050 at least), and packed with useful features

The H6 has been very easy to use in both capacities, and I am thrilled with the recording quality and variety of tonal options provided by the different mic attachments

some moron decided that every time you record it should put the files in a different folder, and worse, if you change top level folders it starts over with the sequence number

It has no real metadata management (you can't enter scene and take numbers) and the absolute worst file structure in the history of file structures

If you do not, you will be trying to transfer over unreadable files to your iMac /Windows computer and you will lose all of your precious work

I gave the device two stars because of horrible instructions out of the box, crappy filing system (multiple folders sigh) and crappy customer support and tutorials
