The GPS that came in our RV is useless, and the Garmin RV 780 is far superior to Google Maps for use in an RV

The navigation still makes some questionable choices for the route so a little research is still needed but the Garmin is far superior to the Rand

The touch screen works pretty good and connection to the smart phone works good.

So if you try to update this RV gps unit and you don't have a fantastic internet connection - for example the sort you'd have in an RV - then you will have just made your device an expensive paperweight

I now can't use this device for anything until I can find a stable enough internet connection to download over 7gb without a break

The voice activation and hands free connection for phone calls is not very good

The addition of verbal notice would be nice

This will always be one of your most helpful additions to your RV as it allows all the specific information about your RV to be entered

Not exactly confidence inspiring....UPDATE (2 days):Got a call back from Garmin Support and resolved the issue.

(see update)Before purchasing, I checked with Garmin Support and they replied "I don't see why it wouldn't be compatible" (exact quote)

However, to make a long story short, following a 2 month and over 4000 mile trip in our motorhome, I do not recommend this unit.

Seems they have known about it for a while since the RV770 does it also, but don't have a real solution (yet??).UPDATE 2 (10 days):Glitches with BaseCamp compatibility aside; the GPS, map, navigation and feature search functions work well.

The screen is awesome and the tethering to the phone via Bluetooth is a nice feature.

I like the large screen and its clarity but the complexity of the device negates the positive features

I can't say the unit ever used the built in traffic feature, which is included unlike the older RV 770, but it did an excellent job of calculated true time in traffic and actual arrival times

I really like the ability to switch from RV to CAR mode.

Like in other gps units this unit reads the actual speed limit (car mode).

Knowing the actual speed limit is a great way to avoid unnecessary police attention.

If using the unit in RV mode the speed limit is always set at a max of 55.

and it says the speed limit is 35, or that in going the wrong way
