I was so excited to get this camera because it's the first really good point and shoot that I've invested some money in.
Also I believe it is the only compact "point and shoot" camera on the market with both a large 1 inch sensor (approaching DSLR size) and a 10x optical zoom
I would recommend the Lumix ZS100 for anyone seeking a powerful point and shoot camera.
Note that I did not deduct any points for this issue since it was rectified immediately and the replacement camera works fine.

What I was disappointed about in the ZS 40 and ZS 50 was that they did not have a "vivid" or "happy" mode that would work in the program mode or other modes
The creative mode can make an ordinary photograph transform into something special and even do video in creative mode.
It has some really nice creative modes, like the glistening water ( it puts sparkles on whatever is shining brightest).
The ZS 100 has brought that back (although it does not work in every mode, like in the creative modes)
They had a "creative" mode that would add saturation, but only in that mode

This is the best travel camera I've ever owned, and arguably the best that exists - period
The Lumix does not have as fast a lens and is considerably heavier and larger, also the viewfinder is not as good as on the Sony; nevertheless I bought the ZS100 as it is much less

It is a perfect travel camera - small but adequate aoom.
It's far too fragile to be a good travel camera and if you plan to go to the tropics, deserts, beaches, or places where there is a strong possibility of rain, you risk severely damaging the camera.

I previously owned a Panasonic DMC-TZ5 which I bought many years ago as the salesperson at the camera store said it had the best zoom for a point and shoot at that time which is what I wanted for concert pictures.
However, there are many times that it simply takes too long and the shot is missed if it is all done manually, especially given the clunkiness of manual controls on a camera of this type
Using shutter priority mode, you can set a shutter speed of somewhere between 1/40-1/125 and an ISO of 1200 or 1600 and almost always get a very clear, well lit shot
10x zoom is enough to get you a fairly clear shot of the band on stage, from almost any point in any venue

The most disappointing factor is the wifi function - it is by far the most exhausting features of any camera I dealt with
If you are going to get this kind of camera, use the opportunity to learn more about photography and the many great features of this little powerhouse
I'm only an amateur photographer but other poorly designed features include:-On/off button: its literally right next to the mode dial and before I even could turn the camera on since I was waiting for the battery to charge after removing it from the box, the switch went from on to off when I first turned the mode dial
The Lumix ZS100 has dozens of amazing features and a seemingly infinite degree of flexibility and customization
Thinking about all the pros and cons of the camera that reviewers have mentioned AND that I have experienced, I am happy with my decision and would definitely recommend this camera to someone who wanted a compact, easy to carry and use camera with great features.

If you need zoom in a compact camera with quality pictures and absolutely fantastic video, this Panasonic ZS-100 is your camera.
Problem is that current iMovie "optimizes" video without a button to remove optimization, so videos looked choppy.
the ZS100 takes much better photos and much better video than the ZS50
The one thing I did like about the camera was the image stabilization in video mode since when I was moving around, the video wasn't shaky even though the focus did suffer

I just returned from a three week trip during which I tested my new camera in a variety of daylight and night time settings and was able to create terrific images repeatedly
This one has a 1-inch sensor which is supposed to capture great images
but if you have to either boost your ISO (adding noise back in) or lengthen your shutter speed (making shake blur more likely, even with this camera's awesome image stabilization) to achieve a useful brightness, it seems to me that benefit is negated
This allows you to take a picture and afterwards you can change the focus point from something close in view to a further point or vice versa and capture the exact picture you want.4k video is also available but be advised that the image stabilizer does not work in this mode
The sensor is 4X larger than the average compact megazoom and I'd say the picture is 4X better and even though the zoom is only 10X the digital zoom maxed out and cropped can easily get you to 30X with BETTER image quality than the standard compact megazoom
