These work fairly well on white paper, but not very well in books with recycled paper (which most of my kids' literature books for school are.)
When working with students, I share these highlighters (and pens) with them while they are learning note taking, annotating, and identifying main ideas/details and they LOVE them
These are new to me, but the erasing function works quite well.
The erasable quality is nice and does work, but the chief function to highlight things has been a big disappointment.
I don't think the erasers work all that well, but as long as you don't soak the page, a lightly moistened paper towel or cloth works great for removing the highlighted area, and it's a lot faster and easier than using the eraser

Because of the above, I would caution against using these on any documents where a permanent mark is required, but for most highlighting, these are amazing!One last thing, pilot does make green and blue frixion highlighters as well

Sometimes the friction smudges whatever you highlighted, but still a really nice product.
I can only recommend this product to students who wish to sell back their textbooks, as the highlighter ink will disappear regardless of intentional friction by the eraser nubbin.

The University where I work has a textbook rental system, and I had hoped that my students could use these pens on the rental books, but the text gets smudged in many books if you have to apply enough pressure to erase the highlighting completely.
The whole point is to be able to erase where something was highlighted and not ruin the text underneath, which is what this does

The yellow one does leave a trace of a white line when heat erased.
While they erase perfectly, and the highlighter ink works just as any highlighter does, they dry out very quickly--I used up one highlighter on a single, 20-page paper
