This is a nice-looking portable turntable

I've tried several records on it now of all genres and the only genre where it kind of fell flat was electronic music (a Flume vinyl I tried), but I'm not expecting deep bass that you can feel from a portable turntable nor should you

As another review mentioned, I hooked up the player to some high end speakers I have and the sound was beautifully vivid and the bass was no longer an issue

Oh, and the player is perfect for my dad, simple to use, compact and nice sound.

You don't really know that you're listening to an inexpensive record player
