have one bracket that's over a year old and the fan still works quietly and even if it died then the worse case would be that your drive would be subject to warming up just like it would have in any other adapter without a fan
The bracket worked fine for a single drive, which is all I needed.
If you're replacing ssd's often, i'm sure a more durable metal bracket will be
Not sure what a bracket that turns a 3.5 inch housing into something useful with a 2.5 inch drive is good for if 2.5 inch drive connectors are different than 3.5 inch drive connectors
The bracket works, but I purchased because it came with a fan
I read somewhere that SSD drives don't generate a lot of heat which makes some question whether or not the fan is necessary but... if you can get this at a low enough sale price why not follow the "better safe than sorry" approach?
this is an okay adapter to own that will get the job done for a cheap price.
The fan, though not needed by me, would be invaluable for someone using it to install an SSD or 2.5inch drive.
The fan is quiet and easy to mount but the pins in the wiring harness are not that tight and pushed themselves out.
The fan is kinda loud, and the molex connector has loose pins.
I imagine the fan is reducing the temperature of the drive, but haven't bothered to quantify that.
maybe it would have lasted longer - for the money I paid quite happy with how long it lasted and will probably buy another one :)EDIT AND UPDATE - four years later this fan is still working, quite happy with it :)Not much to say it's a fan... other than it works when plugged into the power supply in the PC
It's somewhat flimsy piece of metal, but the cutting, punching, sanding, and painting are all of high quality.
All said, a 10 minute job from case off to case on, if that.--Overall thoughts--The function of this mounting bracket is to hold a static piece of hardware in a PC and it does its job well
I am sure you can rig it but for less than $5, it is a piece of mind since the SSD itself is cheaper than what it was, but still quite expensive.
Feeling the bracket out, the inner two "struts" (what do I call these?) seemed as every bit flimsy and thin as it shows in the picture but thick enough to hold a static piece of hardware in place in a static piece of machine
Other than that it's a decent piece of steel - better than plastic garbage!
