On-ear headphones are for those people who still want a compact set of headphones, yet want to have good sound quality without sticking something in your ears

I decided to search google for a decent set of headphones for under $100 and these popped up on a couple of sites

no undue accent in any particular area of the spectrum; never a shrill or harsh note at the top end but

I eventually settled on the Grado SR60e's as my main listening phones, although compared to their progenitor, the original SR60's, the "e"'s had a shrillness at the top end that never went away, despite reassurances from Grado.

Compared to the Grado's, they lack a little punch deep, and their top end is a little veiled.

both low and high end, Grado, Koss, Sony, Audio Technica (the ATH M50 makes an excellent match for the Audioengine D1), and the Shure hold their end up well against some stiff competition.

Very good quality headphones and great value for money.

They have good-excellent sound (outdoors, I'm not looking for great sound), they're comfortable, they cover enough of my ears to offer decent sound isolation but not so much that my ears feel like they're in a microwave and at $40, an excellent value.

Again for the value, very good sound quality, especially the bass, good looking and very comfortable

They are very good looking for compact headphones as well with a shiny chrome, with grey earpieces and black cord

I bought these when the last of my sennheiser px-100's bit the dust, and I found that its successor (and, indeed, most modern phones) boosted the midbass so artificially as render most music practically unlistenable.

I'd pass on these, the skullcandy phones at the same price are much better with regards to comfort and sound.

Anyhow, those phones developed a mechanical fault, and I went back to the Shures and you know what, they are really good.

The phones are very comfortable, but I find them slightlyon the small side

The bass is a bit on the ‘tinny’ side meaning that sometimes the bass seems to fall flat while the other parts of the music keep going strong

(not wretched excess bass like Beats headphones, just a little more), and to my ears, these headphones need more punch

The headphones are extremely comfortable and have soft ear pads that feel very nice on my ears.

The right ear was making a scraping noise and the wire was rubbing my face.

Again, this isn't bad, but they start to hurt my ears after a couple of hours of use

The soft ear cushions are very effective in muting the outside noises and that allows the wearer to enjoy the quality of sound expected from Shure products.

The sound is already going out on the right ear 40 days in.
