Tascam US-4x4 USB Audio Interface
style:US-4x4
TASCAM's US-4x4 combines great audio quality and ergonomic design for a powerful 4-in/4-out USB 2.0 interface. Four of TASCAM's Ultra-HDDA mic/line preamps provide up to 57dB or gain with nearly inaudible noise and distortion specs. Th...
The interface itself is pretty good -- clean(ish) gain and intuitive design
Don't even think about plugging a low output mic like the Shure SM7B or various ribbon mics into one of these without a Cloudlifter or FetHead though, as there's no way this little TASCAM unit can supply enough clean gain for all but the screamer style vocalists
I don't have super high end mics to explain the minute details about the pre amps, but they do sound pretty average to my ears, no real addition or loss, just kinda boosts the gain like a transparent preamp should
You have level control on all four front panel inputs, as well as on the headphone outputs and two of the line outputs.
The headphone amp sounds fine and has enough gain to drive my old Sennheiser HD580 headphones
While you dont here the latency while recording, the play back sounds off time.
It may seem like I'm asking for too much but this unit at the great price of $300 is obviously targeted to users with basement and garage "studios" who may likely be recording themselves
Use ASIO single-client and have great playback and great recording
Use MME multi-client and have great playback and no recording
If you are looking for a great 4-channel recording interface without spending a fortune, this is the one to get!
As promised, the device delivers great sound with no noise - other than what my inputs bring to the equation
3) will make the loudest most frightful sound you will ever hear in your ears and again won't register making me have to restart my computer
TASCAM US-2x2 is incredibly stable, amazing sound, super Assembly
The sound is clean and the device works flawlessly with Cakewalk Sonar X2 using the ASIO driver.
Quite often it seems to get in to a state where it sounds like I am talking in to a fan (i.e. the sound gets really choppy)... even if I'm only listening to iTunes through it
The available input and output ports are as advertised, and the monitoring function off of the hardware front of the AMP works very well.
In these software applications, I was able to verify that the problem wasn't hardware installation, but likely my lack of understanding the proper settings and input selections to capture my audio files
I might as well find something with enough inputs to accommodate any situation
I bought this mainly because I needed an interface with enough inputs to record my drumset, as well as guitar on occasion
The only issue I had was one microphone input into the unit was triggering an overload indicator (on the loudest drum strikes) in the DAW software even with the physical gain pot turned all the way down
The dials work very smoothly, although I do wish that there were some locations where they would click into place (e.g. at the midpoint) to help me line up the levels for multiple inputs (if connected to a computer, though, things can be fine tuned in software).Things that I really like (for my uses)
Sounds like some people got a faulty unit, good thing they bought it on Amazon and

Only bummer for me is that Sonar is not Mac compatible - was looking for an easy to use DAW - Ableton is not always the right thing for me :)
The preamps are unreal for this price range, but that's a Tascam trademark...they always go the extra mile
This means you can use two of these units in tandem to get a total of 16 simultaneous preamped inputs for only $600! and by the way these preamps are loud
The mic preamps are clean and RFI resistant but, like the Tascam DR-100 MKII, are somewhat clinical and edgy
I was considering the (currently more expensive) M-Audio M-Track Eight and Presonus 1818VSL units, but chose the TASCAM in the end and boy
Love the preamps when running my guitar straight to unit.
Overall, this is a solid product for those that are looking for a great way to take in a couple of instruments or record vocals to a full fledged audio suite.
Though slow to react to the need of a better driver, tascam offers a great product here
This is the worst audio product I own, It has brought me nothing but problems and confusion since the day I received it
Overall, this is a nice product for my home recordings.
Before driver updates, uninformed customers misunderstood this product
Sounds like some people got a faulty unit, good thing they bought it on Amazon and
Anyone have any ideas, or is this just a defective unit? Thanks!
CONCLUSION---------------Overall, I think it's a great unit.
The specs cite an incredible -125dbu EIN (input noise level) which is as good as a high end portable unit like the Mackie DL16xx which is -128dbEIN
And the manual says to never connect or disconnect the mics when the phantom power switch is set to +48, as again you'll get the high pitched noises/screeches that will damage your unit and equipment
I thought that the design of the aluminum side panels was weird at first, but they're actually growing on me.
The interface itself is pretty good -- clean(ish) gain and intuitive design
The design and Assembly of these cards in the TASCAM US-2x2 is the most solid and strong, I feel like a Kalashnikov.))))TASCAM US-2x2 wakes up with the computer and does not require distorting the usb
This little audio interface device comes in a small, desk-top friendly design.
I will say that the design of the software interface was hard get used to; although functional, it's not nearly as flexible / customizable as my old e-mu 0404 pci card's software
Before you start recording, make certain you have sufficient RAM and hard drive space on your computer
Then I upgraded the hard drive from a regular 5400 speed to a SSD HD, now its awesome
I bought this to transfer some recordings from an old 4-track PortaStudio tape deck to hard drive for preservation and editing, and thus needed a 4-input audio interface
I am using a i7 core processor, with 64gig ram and solid state drives, so I dont think its my system.
Like image files, audio files can take up a lot of space on the computer's hard drive, so it would be wise to install an external hard drive using a USB connection and only use this extra hard drive for your sound recordings
