Reviews around kit (5.00 of 5)

  • I think, they need to listen to live acts like Dio, Van Halen, Savatage, Iron Maiden to hear what a great kit sounds like
  • There are 2 useful kits, you can edit some drums to make useful kits but it's painstaking
  • I program midi drum tracks into my sequencer (or use existing midi track samples that are getting easier to find these days) and use the DR-880 for its wealth of top-notch drum kits and percussion hits.
  • In my opinion nothing beats the Roland drum sounds and there are so many kits available

Reviews around effect (5.00 of 5)

  • They also included a fairly decent multi-effects unit
  • You can create your own tracks or edit the installed ones as well as add effects.
  • The amp simulators in there are passable at best for recording or live performance but they are plenty good enough to jam along to the drum beats on and the included effects are fun to mess around

Reviews around tool (5.00 of 5)

  • I'm a guitarist and songwriter, and I have found this to be a great tool.
  • That turned out to be a Yamaha QY100 which is great little tool
  • For the price you can't beat this as a great tool to add a drums in and geat a great deal on a mutil effect machine

Reviews around option (5.00 of 5)

  • A little long in the tooth but has quite a few good sounding options
  • Regardless of that, it is quite powerful, with quite a few good sounding guitar amp options on tap
  • There are drum humanize options that are quite robust, as well as some swing options and these can be dialed per beat, lending a more realistic performance

Reviews around deal (5.00 of 5)

  • Using that you can create A. B, C, D master knobs that will instantly access a pattern and a saved guitar/bass sound
  • With the variations available I was able to get a great deal of milage out of those
  • For the price you can't beat this as a great tool to add a drums in and geat a great deal on a mutil effect machine

Reviews around use (5.00 of 5)

  • I like the "ghost notes" and variety of Kits that can be used with the many pre-set rythmns
  • If I am going to have to use external synths to fill out my sound, I might as well use them for bass lines too
  • In every way it always seems to be more convenient using a laptop

Reviews around drummer (4.16 of 5)

  • I would use this machine live any day over a sloppy drummer.
  • Of course nothing replaces a real `good` drummer, but when I am down a man, this machine shines
  • It can also be useful if you only have either a bass player or drummer to work with at one time
  • Using that you can create A. B, C, D master knobs that will instantly access a pattern and a saved guitar/bass sound
  • EZDrummer, Slate, Superior Drummer, BFD are just a few mentions that might be worthwhile looking into if you are OK with going the PC route

Reviews around feature (4.10 of 5)

  • If you don't want to be bothered to program fills you can use some of the preset fills, a feature that is a real time saver
  • I do feel though, that for the price, it is not unfair to expect a more full featured jambox w/ better sequencing capabilities and sounds to use as a stand alone unit.
  • Feature rich, showy and flashy, but I would have read the 100 some odd pages in the manual and tweak the sounds for recording
  • One nice feature is you can rout the bass (or anything) to a separate output so you can run the bass sounds to an actual bass amp and the drums to the PA and get a more realistic live sound that way
  • This is a slightly older machine from BOSS, but is still holding its value very well as it's really a great drum machine with great features

Reviews around time (3.86 of 5)

  • They are of the quality where they will sometimes sound a bit funny when recording demos if you don't spend enough time getting your guitars and such to sound as good as the drums
  • As long as I am paying attention, I can play it live like a drummer with flawless timing
  • You can do any manner of odd time signature or tempo

Reviews around thing (3.75 of 5)

  • One of the coolest things you can do with this unit is to buy 4 pedals [SF5U] made for this
  • Funny thing happen when I was purchasing it, the salesmen said not many people buy these machines anymore, they buy the drum software instead.
  • This thing is crazy good.
  • That being said, one thing this excels at is being a jam-along box for guitar practice, which is pretty much what I have ended up using it for

Reviews around machine (3.70 of 5)

  • but the machine has enough to cover most of rock, metal, ballad, R&B and blues, even some hip hop
  • Enjoying this product, somewhat limited but still a great drum machine
  • The DVD really is a must buy because the DR-880 is fairly complex machine and it's not very intuitive to use
  • The DR-880 can implement tempo changes per patch, so logically it was the only way to go for more complex arrangement, unless you are one of the people that like to slave a drum machine to a DAW or hardware sequencer
  • This item, is undoubtedly one of the more excellent drum machines available; and for a price cut of nearly 60 percent, you really can't turn something like this down
