This lens apperture is an unbeliavable f4.5, its widest apperture is not even f4 but 4.5 and this is a 300mm lens!Again, the lens is pretty good for what it was designed and the price is not bad.
Excellent lens - provides great zoom and image stabilization at a good price relative to other options on the market
I find this focus problem disappointing especially given the price of this lens
But the price was fantastic, for a lens that will get use on the tripod.
So, short delay but all in all recieved a good lens at a good price and original lens was also great but will not auto focus with certain models
I was wanting a new lens for my D60, something with a zoom and the vibration reduction
Not quite so fine is the still-sticky zoom ring, which takes just enough effort to turn that near 300mm your subject will tend to jump around, maybe right out of the frame, as the hand holding the lens works in opposition to the hand holding the camera.
I love the zoom of the lens, and it is very easy to handle.
The zoom is not smooth on this lens, and on my d5100 it has to be manually focused.
Got this with discount from D7100 this lens is huge and got good zoom range
the aperture to f8 or f11, the images do get sharper but aren't as sharp as in the 70-200mm range
I will tell you in decent light or tripod situations this lens is just as sharp as the 70-200 f/2.8 (stopped down one stop from wide open) in the 70-200 focal range on my D700 and just as sharp at all aperatures (once again in the 70-200 focal range) on my D90.
the aperture to f8 or f11, the images do get sharper but aren't as sharp as in the 70-200mm range
I would not let the camera decide what to focus on at that zoom though, like another person said it would probably be the kiss of death with all of that shaking going on, or the camera totally confused as to what what to focus on, since it will focus on perhaps landscape when you want a bird's eye where the bird is on a branch in focus
yes the camera loves light and in low light the results are not near as good as when in full sunlight
Anybody who grew up using non-VR telephoto lenses knows you're almost always on the margins of camera shake when using them, often having to chuck three out of every four photos to get one good one.

This is a very light lens, with no VR, so when zoomed in you'll notice quite a bit of camera shake.

The 70-300mm lens also features Nikon's Vibration Reduction tech which helps you avoid shaky pictures from shaky hands when you are using slower shutter speeds
It's not a VR lens, but, while VR lets you use slower shutter speeds, it doesn't hold your subject still
If you try to shoot with a slower shutter (i.e. 1/60 shutter on a 100M zoom factor) your pictures will come out blurry unless you use a tripod
what a lens, awesome pictures so interesting you just get carried away and ur lost when ur doing a photo shoot, u just wanna click more n more
Vibration reduction (camera and lens) does an excellent job tracking moving objects
It is not in the super b lenses
Have used it at a dog show to take great photos, movement and across the ring shots, and taken some good ones at performance events, just have to work out the focusing with a fast moving object, I just know that this lens will not last long for that reason.
If you want lots of zoom, plan to use it outside, and don't plan on photographing fast moving objects, this can work out for you.
if you are trying to capture a fast-moving object, I DO recommend that you already have the focus in the approximate focus range, and then the lens will focus in about a 1/10th of a second).
