  • The sounds are fun, very electronic-y and demonstrate the attributes of various type of synthesis.
  • I love the audio quality and it's hard to express how much fun they squeezed into such a tiny device!

  • "musical toy".Still, there's enough good features with the PO-16 to consider at least giving it a look.

  • It's a fun little device that could have been done a little better, but I actually prefer the PO-20 Arcade.

Reviews around sync (5.00 of 5)

  • I did not have much success "sync"-ing with an Arturia BeatStep Pro or Akai Professional's Rhythm Wolf, Tom Cat, or Timbre Wolf's gate outputs.
  • The sounds are fun, very electronic-y and demonstrate the attributes of various type of synthesis.
  • However, external audio signals through the Pocket Operators seem much muted, but the "sync" works like a champ! The Pocket Operators “sync” well with Korg's Volcas, but the Volca synchronization pulse is constant.

  • Only plays in C major scale but if you know about music theory and modern harmony you will also know that a single major scale can be played in tons of chords, so while this is a limitation, the thing is still powerful

Reviews around interface (5.00 of 5)

  • While it's not a totally intuitive interface, with a little practice, switching sounds and patterns will be second nature

Reviews around combination (5.00 of 5)

  • The PO-16 Factory is my 3rd Pocket Operator, and I'm going to try to make it my last, though the combination of small size/low price does make it tempting to become a "collector".

Reviews around experience (5.00 of 5)

  • The Factory is a fun, tweakable experience, and it even has a (very primitive) drum machine built in as the 16th instrument.

Reviews around way (3.86 of 5)

  • Yes, you can use one of the effects as a "pitch bend" to raise certain notes a half step and "trick" it into doing sharps and flats that way.
  • The sounds are fun, very electronic-y and demonstrate the attributes of various type of synthesis.
  • I think the best thing that you can say about all of the Pocket Operators is that they encourage you to explore different musical ideas by completely blowing up the traditional way that you would input notes and interact with a musical device.
  • Jamming and jazzing to a goofy tune I wrote is a great way to waste a few spare minutes (

  • The Factory is a fun, tweakable experience, and it even has a (very primitive) drum machine built in as the 16th instrument.
  • I actually started with the PO-32 Tonic, which is n awesome beat-box / drum machine
  • Outstanding machine--will surprise you.

More about TeenageEngineering PO, PO-16

  • TeenageEngineering PO, PO-16 Small enough to fit in your pocket and powered by a pair of AAA batteries, the Teenage Engineering PO-16 Factory Synthesizer features multiple real synthesizer engines including FM, subtractive synthesis, wave table, and physically modeled strings with 16 punch-in effects including delay, bit crusher, and filters
  • It also includes 16 punch-in arpeggio and chord playing styles
  • The punch-in play styles are a quick way to create melodies
  • The concept is to minimize the effort of entering a complete series of notes in a sequence by simply adding one or a few notes and then allowing the punch-in function to fill in variations of the notes that follow
  • The synthesizer parameters can be locked while an auto compressor and hardware limiter ensure adequate signal generation without clipping
  • A 16-step sequencer features 16 available patterns and up to 16 patterns can be chained together
  • An integrated clock and alarm clock expands the creative possibilities of the instrument
  • A jam sync function with 3.5mm audio in and out connections allows for multiple synthesizer units to be linked together
  • Using high-quality components with low power consumption, the synthesizer is cleverly designed with a Silabs EFM 32 Gecko CPU, a Cirrus Logic DAC, and a Knowles speaker placed under a novel animated LCD on a single circuit board
  • A fold-out stand makes it easier to play, and rear-panel speaker solder terminals allow you hook up the unit to a larger sound system.
