I've tried some cheaper dash cams before and while the video is good at night, this unit is where it shines assince the resolution is very high, I can still recognize the plate numbers (still depending on the lighting/reflection) with a considerable distance from my car Operation - As with most dash cams, you install and "forget" these devices

I would most definitely recommend the Vantrue X3 dash cam.

After 6 months, the ball joint has become loose, causing the camera to wobble in all directions while turning or bumps in the road.

I have used the highest resolution settings in 1440 HDR (and without HDR) at 30fps, as well as the 1080p at 60 fps

The only downside is that the ball joint for the mount can lose tension, even after adjusting the tension screws on each side

After a couple of months of use, and varying temperatures in my car, the ball joint has failed, and now the camera hangs as if on a short length of string

This is a bit of a personal preference, but I like wide angle lenses

The menu interface itself is a bit clunky navigating with the buttons and there is some delay in response while navigating but gets the job done

As a precaution, I did buy a 128GB card, as I am a bit paranoid from when my G-Sensor failed on me on my last dash-cam and it ended up burning me

The cable port is a bit odd on the unit as I noticed you have to really plug the cable in firmly to get a good charging/data connection

The biggest issue is with the cheap/bad USB ports (both, the one in the windshield mount and the one in the csmera)

The port still works and the camera works very well, but I'm sure I'll have to replace the mount before long, as there are exposed wires, and the port comes loose from the mount every time I plug or unplug the power cable

Just DO NOT plug in the power until AFTER you have put it on the windshield or you could break the power port on the windshield mount like I did( that was MY fault not the product)

For $159, Vantrue should have used a little better quality USB ports

Seeing as to how this was a Prime Day Deal, Amazon not only issued me a return, but they issued me a credit for the difference so that I could re-order a new dash cam

I actually purchased a total of '3' of the X3 Cameras since I have multiple cars and have each camera hard wired for convenience

Once you turn off the power (I have not hard wired yet), the unit turns off almost immediately.2

We have it hard wired and so just turn on the car - dash cam is on and recording great video.

User friendly is always the plug is not requiring to hard wire, but is an option.
