The pads are responsive, velocity sensitive and also extremely fun to play
Key's are superb (almost on par with my 1300$ electric piano), and the pads are extremely responsive
the pads, knobs, sliders and botton all feel like quality
all of the knobs turn nicely, and the pads are actually usable and easy to customize... the mod wheel and pitch wheel feel great and have nice resistance..
For those considering a budget option but not sure whether a board like this is worth it, the keys, the pads, and the knobs/faders are significant improvements over budget alternatives

but the additional software never seemed to work for me
You will notice that anything other than 5 star reviews were related to issues due to shipping or downloading free software provided with the keyboard
All though I absolutely love the sound kits and software for my Maschine, I have never been able to play the drum pads quite like I can on Akai products

All the controls feel very solid and high quality, adding to the illusion that you are really going to make this mix sound like Dre
after feeling the quality of these keys and the consistency of the velocity in my DAW, I decided quality was more important than type (semi-weighted vs. synth).Along the same vein are the rotary encoders (dials) and the sliders -- both have an excellent feel to them and are a clear cut above every other brand I tested within a $100 price difference (up and down).This controller also offered a far deeper level of customizability than others I tested out

It is solid built, Faders, knobs and Pads are very very nice.
The MPK249 is extremely well built and functions very well
I won't highlight why the keyboard is good because the upsides have already been covered by other reviewers and I agree that generally this is a well built device

There was no match comparing the Akai vs. other midrange Midi controllers like M-Audio, etc.

The drum touch pads are awesome and 'touch sensitive' the harder you tap - the louder they sound
The pads have a nice clean touch to them and they aren't as stiff as some of their other previous pad designs

Only the Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol had a better feel, and Novation Impulse was comparable

I actually liked the feel of the old pads on an MPK, but this is a nice emprovement

: it wouldn't play the note properly at first, and when it finally did (having tapped it a dozen times) it's not as velocity-sensitive as the other keys
I really love the velocity sensitive keys that really makes your feel in control of your production.
In my opinion, the keys have the perfect, give/springyness/whatever you call it
I liked the 49 keys for the size, because it can be easily put away after I finish playing around
I would definitely recommend fully weighted keys and a full size keyboard, and then maybe just get the drum pad
