As far as the HEOS1, well it sounds very tinny with pretty good bass

First, this is the perfect wireless speaker for pool/hot tub use.

The HEOS speakers sound excellent when used on a wifi network and the audible difference with this new feature is so minimal it’s not worth talking about, especially on the smaller speakers like the HEOS 1.

However, I've been using Bluetooth, which I really enjoy because I can play EVERYTHING on my phone through it versus what the app will allow me to play (i.e. Sonos)

All in all, a well-designed, rugged speaker with great sound quality.

All of this said, when the system is working well (as in my father's experience), the speaker has good sound for its size and price point.

But this speaker is part of some incredibly complex nightmare system that requires serious IT skills

Add these to your home WiFi network and you have a smart sound system in every room

When the HEOS app is working well, the system is easy to use, and due to the streaming over wi-fi, rather than Bluetooth, sounds great.

To find one that is part of a highly capable wireless whole-house system makes it especially attractive

Tried at least five different, highly recommended routers to no avail and concluded that HEOS must be the problem, but recently dumped the standard router for a high density web mesh system and the connectivity is now flawless

Although I read that the Sonos bass range is better, the Heos mid and high are very crisp and the bass is not forced.

If you are interested in superb surround HEOS is the way to go.

I would give 5+ stars for sound quality, but the speaker loses a star for forcing you to use the stupid app and not letting the connected aux cable simply be the default input.
